What happens to your travel blog when your travels end? I've been thinking about this as I watch what's going on over at The World is Not Flat. The intrepid round the world travelers are back home and, well, now what? Another bloggy friend of mine is back on the road again, but he used his blog for many other things during his "stay in one place" time. When I have to fill out a form that makes me select what kind of blog I write, I always check travel, but I don't blog exclusively about travel - and I fit the expat blogger mold more than I fit the travel blogger mold, though I do love to blog about travel.
Maybe this is why the networks that will host your blog - Travel Blog, Travel Post, Trav Buddy, My Trip Journal, My Journey... I can list a lot more - are so popular with travelers. They provide the perfect framework for blogging your trip. When you get back home, your trip journal sits in good company with other travelbloggers. It's findable by those looking for travel stories about your destinations. And it doesn't seem to go as stale as self hosted travelblog because it sits in a neat travel context.
But what about the independents? I'd like to know what you're doing with your blog now that you're done with your adventure? Will you park it until you travel again? Will you morph your blog in to a brand new identity? Will you stay with the travel theme? How do you make a travel blog that's about one trip endure?
