Yesterday the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts won their division championships. This not only earned both teams spots in Super Bowl XLI, but it earned both coaches a place in history.

Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears and Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts will be the first two African-Americans to coach during a Super Bowl.
What are women bloggers saying about it?
Monica from TransGriot says:
Black History Month 2007 will have a historic matchup kicking it off on February 4.
Super Bowl XLI in Miami will feature two African-American coaches facing off for the NFL championship. One of them will leave Dolphins Stadium with the Lombardi Trophy in their possession.
She goes on to say:
Maybe this was the moment that pioneering NFL coach Frederick Douglass 'Fritz' Pollard had in mind during the 20's and 30's when he was coaching teams during the barnstorming days. Even if you're not a fan, this is a significant moment in Black history. Every African-American is standing a little bit taller tonight, but none moreso than the African-American players, coaches and general managers of the NFL.
Freedom Eden says:
Why should anyone be shocked that teams coached by African Americans are in the Super Bowl?
I think it's too bad that it's a big deal.
Aren't we past that point?
Apparently not.
I tend to agree with Freedom Eden. I think if I hadn't heard Lovie Smith himself saying how proud he was and what it means to him, I wouldn't even be writing about it. As a white woman, I have no idea how I would feel about this if I were a African-American, but I do know this; both Smith and Dungy are fantastic coaches with great teams. I think this is going to be one heck of a Super Bowl.
