Crazy as it sounds, SXSW Interactive is right around the corner. And awesome as it may be, no event like this could be complete without a BlogHer Meet-Up.
Unfortunately, the awesome site of last year's BBQ shindig can't accommodate us this time around...so we're looking for ideas from you. Here's what we'd like:
Date: Friday, March 9
Time: 8 p.m. onward...
Who: Anyone who wants to join us (conference attendance absolutley not required)
Everything Else: We'd love to find a casual and fun place that serves good food and drink, and can accommodate 50 or so people. Nothing too formal. We want our BlogHers to be able to stop in when they can, grab a bite if they want, stay for a beverage, and enjoy the good company they're in. (Super loud music probably won't work for our group.)
Recommendations? Ideas? Questions? Concerns? Add a comment, or feel free to email.

Weather dependent
A couple of places with large outside areas (but inadequate indoor space if the weather is bad) are Sholz Garden at 1607 San Jacinto Blvd and Club De Ville at 900 Red River St. I'm trying hard to think of a place with a large indoor area within walking distance of the convention center, but so far I'm coming up blank. Take into account that most places within walking distance have booked events for those nights that will fill them up with people trying to do the same thing we are, so it would be good to contact possible venues to be sure they aren't booked with another group.

Thanks!
I will look into those. I think you're right; given how busy the conference area will be, we might have to consider going somewhere outside the walking-distance perimeter.
Hmm...
Austin meetup venue ideas
Yeah, the tough thing is going to be finding something in walking distance, on a Friday, with a bazillion other people in town trying to do the same thing.
Maybe the Iron Works BBQ, Brick Oven Pizza, Moonshine or Serrano's, all on Red River, would let us commandeer a few tables. Waterloo Ice House at 6th & Lamar is a hefty hike but we could always spill over into the Amy's Ice Cream nearby. :)
Not sure if Guero's or El Sol y La Luna on South Congress would have room, but they're vaguely close in. In a car we can get to Matt's El Rancho or even way down to Maria's Taco Xpress, both South Lamar (although there's really only room outside for a big group at Maria's.) Places like Threadgill's, Chuy's & Baby Acapulco on Barton Springs are great but they're usually insane on Friday plus we'd have to drive there.
We could also scare all of the students and take over a good greasy spoon like Dirty Martin's burger joint by UT on Guadalupe.
Sorry to throw so much out there, but wasn't sure how hard & fast the walking perimeter is. I have a van and could shuttle up to 6 people somewhere (I'm coming down from Round Rock.)

West Sixth Street
I posed a question on the SXSW community blog asking for suggestions on this. Hugh Forrest answered with the advice that we try to find a place on West 6th Street, especially if it is a come-and-go type meetup. There are a lot of other things going on in that area on Friday, so people could hop around a bit. Another meetup I'm interested in is the Higher Education one. It's going to be at Belmont (305 W. 6th St). From my perspective as an elder with hearing issues, a place like Jazz on 6th, while a huge room, is also home to loud live music. Actually, every place in Austin has live music. But not all of it is loud.

Ms. Jen kindly added it, and I had her change the location to TBA, since Stubb's is not available.

Maybe little woodrow's would
Maybe little woodrow's would be good. I also second waterloo ice house on 6th & Lamar, BUT they always have music going on there too so it might be packed during the latter part of the week.
Freddie's on s. 1st is an EXCELLENT place and would work beautifully...tons of seating, GREAT food...but I'm amazed that no one's brought up meeting/eating at the whole foods flagship on 6th & lamar. That is a sight to see in and of itself.
Oodleday, y'all!
Have we decided on a place to meet up?
Hola Ladies!
Happy Friday!
Has a meet up place for Fri. March 9th been determined?
smiles, jen ;o)

We're deciding between a couple of places...
Hey Jen et al:
Basically we're down to two options:
Freddie's...which I'm happy to see the rave review for above, but it also is not really walking distance from the convention center, more like a short cab ride. Freddie's has the best set-up for us...very much like Stubb's last year, with a back patio that they'll let us take over at 8PM after Happy Hour. We have a reservation here.
Or there are a couple of bars Kristy has been talking to (Lamberts and Casino El Camino) that are really close to the convention center, but they're not going to do much for us without guaranteeing a hefty minimum...so basically that would mean just picking a bar to meet at and trying to congregate as best we could...much more casual.
Anyone have any thoughts on the distance Freddie's is from the Convention Center? should we let that discourage us, or are y'all up for it?
Here's a map.
