New Technique to Train Preemies to Eat
A simple approach that helps newborns improve their eating abilities, gain weight, and possibly leave the hospital sooner, is being conducted at Florida Hospital Orlando. The technique uses a pacifier that plays soothing lullabies. This music therapy encourages babies to suck on a pacifier in order to keep the soothing music playing. While full-term babies are born with the ability to suck and swallow, some premature babies on the other hand, may have trouble sucking the bottle.
