Pay Equality at Wimbledon
by Sarah

It only took the Wimbledon 123 years to decide to pay men and women the same amount of money.

Last year, men's champion Roger Federer received $1.170 million and women's winner Amelie Mauresmo got $1.117 million.

Not that $1.117 million dollars is a bad prize, but it's nice to see that Wimbledon has finally come around. Maybe it was the peer pressure of The French Open giving equal prize money.

If you were wondering, the US Open and the Australian Open have been paying male and female champions equally for years.

what took so long?

hey sarah,
it just blew my mind that the disparity in pay lasted until now. i wrote about it on my blog careerdiva.net this week.
do you know if the female tennis players ever boycotted over this. women shouldn't take this stuff lying down.
