Here are five unusual food offerings I've noticed lately on some of my favorite blogs. I admit I'm starting with the hardest one first, but do you know the name of the unual Greek snack food pictured here, which starts with bread stuffed with cheese, baked, and then filled with assorted things, often french fries and yogurt sauce? I learned about this from Pille of Nami-Nami.

If that one was too challenging (I admit I didn't know it myself) see if you know these other unusual food specialties.

Lisa from Homesick Texan features a type of spicy Mexican Sauce which combines chocolate and chiles. Can you name the sauce?

At One Hot Stove, Nupur creates an Indian dish which features spicy, saffron-scented rice layered with vegetables or meat. What's the name of this famous Indian dish?

Next up, from Gluten-Free By the Bay, a dish from El Salvador which consists of "corn tortillas crafted out of masa harina, stuffed with cheese, beans or meat and topped with a spicy cabbage salad known as curtido." Can you name them? (I admit, this was the other one that stumped me.)

Finally, a great piece on making a famous pasta made from potatoes, which comes from Pip in the City, in Buenos Aires, not somewhere that comes to mind when you think of pasta, but she knows what she's doing here! What's the name of the famous Italian pasta made from potatoes?

We're not keeping score, but if we were, I only knew three out of five of these foods. How did you do?

I missed winning the big prize(!) But I'd like to mention that in England we'd call that Greek thing a "Chip Buttie." Boy do I want one now!

Nordette, thanks. I was hoping people would be curious, even if they weren't foodies (or whatever we should be calling ourselves, since so many food lovers seem to dislike the word foodie.) Gluten-Free By the Bay is a great blog, written by Isaiah, who's a woman with a man's name!

I won't even hazard guesses, but I will say I like the way you set this up. You made me curious about the answers. I'm happy to discover the Gluten Free By the Bay blog through you. I'm always looking for ways to avoid wheat. Thank you.

Stefania, I'll keep my eyes open for interesting foods that Blogher readers might not know about. There are a lot of them popping up on the food blogs.

Debra, me too on the Biryani recipe. Plus, I have met Nupur, the blogger who posted that and she is so lovely. I'm pretty sure she's coming to Blogher 07.

McEwen, no not "chip-butty" which sounds pretty interesting itself!

Whilst we're a bit further south than SF, it's the same deal - great variety - When I first saw the picture, I thought it was a 'chip butty.' didn't think that particular 'culinary' hic-cup would have got this far!

Maybe it'll be the next food craze to sweep the nation.

This was a fun exercise. You should make this a regular BlogHer feature!

I got the two easy ones: mole and gnocchi. But I tagged the biryani when I read it.. as it sounds like a great recipe to keep on hand.

I'm impressed. You definitely know your food! I'll see if anyone guesses the first one before I give it away.
