Looking Good is Very Empowering
by Kalyn Denny

I'd been having a little argument with myself about whether or not my little Blogher posts about low carb or low fat recipes were just a bit fluffy compared to the important issues that some of you were writing about, when suddenly I got it . . .

Losing weight or maintaining your weight is about empowering yourself to be the best you can be. Taken a step further, managing your weight and eating amazing tasting food is a wonderful form of self-love. And since some of the most enlightened cooks around are currently writing food blogs, what a great spot to look for ideas for delicious food that will help you if you're on a diet, or just monitoring what you eat. Here are some of the wonderful "diet foods" I discovered on food blogs this week:

Adventures in Food and Wine featured a Wasabi Salmon recipe from Cooking Light that sounded fantastic and suitable for most any diet plan. Mahanandi's Red, Yellow, and Green Bell Pepper Curry was another recipe that struck me as being good for many weight-loss plans with very little fat or carbs (although I would use low-glycemic rice for my South Beach eating plan.) Peanut Butter and Purple Onions featured a tasty Spicy Stir Fry with Pork and Broccoli that was also low fat and low carb both. Weekly Dish shows us a low carb Green Tomato and Goat Cheese Frittata that she makes for friends who are South Beach dieters. Last, Blogher Alanna at A Veggie Venture gives us Weight Watchers Zero Points Garden Vegetable Soup.

It is more than deep serious subjects... it's food and drink and laughing and sharing and making stuff too.

I love reading all these foodie blogs.

I agree with Debra. It's all

I agree with Debra. It's all good.

Empowerment is about more than finding our voice, and standing our ground [though both acts are vital]. It's also about taking good care of ourselves. Nurturing our own body with healthy choices. Accepting our needs as important. And making the effort [and taking the time!] such choices require.

Karina, thanks for visiting

Karina, thanks for visiting Blogher! I love your comment about nurturing your body with healthy choices. That's exactly what I'm try to do with my "diet", even now that I have lost the weight I needed to lose.
