A friend of mine who is over 60, after training for nearly a year, is about the head to Boston to run in this year's marathon. I have no doubt that she will finish the race–not first, but not last either. She's one of 24,000 registered runners this year.
The New Zealand Herald ran a story today about NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who plans to run the Marathon from space. Williams is a mere 41 years old.
I wondered how many women over the age of 50 were running this year. Turns out that you can search the list of entrants using parameters such as age and gender. There are 1091 women over the age of 50 running this year.
The Boston Marathon is sponsoring a USA Women's Championship Marathon this year. Top female marathoners from the US will compete for separate prize money for the first time in this race.
Keep an eye on the news on April 16 to see how the women fare.
You go, girls!
