The Paralysis Resource Community, a program of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, launched their brand new social networking community: The Paralysis Community.

The Paralysis Community offers all of the bells and whistles you'll find in other social networking groups: blogs, private messaging, surveys and polls, discussions and the always popular "friends" lists.

"We at the PRC realize that peer to peer communication is an invaluable resource for emotional support, feedback and knowledge for people living with paralysis and their caregivers. The Paralysis Community social network will foster peer relations across the country as well as across the world in a secure environment in order to provide all of the site members unlimited opportunities to safely interact and share solutions to common problems faced on a daily basis," said Joseph Canose, Vice President of Quality of Life, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. "The addition of a moderated and health-focused online social network is one more example of why the PRC is the foremost authority on paralysis."

When you join the community, you're asked to choose a topic of interest and declare "who you are" - someone who has a paralysis related health issue, a friend or family member, a health professional or someone interested in the topic. Once you've joined and you start surfing the social network you'll find some really interesting people and interesting blogging taking place and an awful lot of support.

"When you can walk, you have 1000 opportunities and you choose one. When you are in a wheelchair you have 100 opportunities and you choose one. Consider the remaining 900 unworthy. Consider you have many opportunities to evaluate anyway. And you can choose only one at a time"

I love that there is a Teen Corner. Teens are often left out of health sites or don't quite find their niche in a site that looks like it invites them. I hope teens find this one and take part.

Clinica Health and the PRC have done a nice job here. There's not much buzz in the blogs that I read about this new community and I'm wondering why. Are any of you using the site? I'd love to hear what you think about this.
