From Capitol Hill to YouTube, Emotional Responses to Immigration Bill
by Dana J. Tuszke

President Bush attacked his opponents, many of them conservatives, regarding his proposed Immigration Reform Bill.

Bush claims "the way to scare the American people, what you say is the bill’s an amnesty bill."

The bill has provisions that will pave the way for nearly 12 million illegal aliens to become citizens, and calls for 370 miles of triple-layer fencing along the Mexican border.

Republican senator Saxby Chambliss of Georgia called the measure "a bad bill" that "puts more emphasis on amnesty than on border security."

Conservative bloggers have plenty to say on the matter.

ColoradoRight says:

Dear Mr. President,

That’s it. You have lost me. Your castigation of those who oppose the Kennedy Country Giveaway Immigration Bill includes me - so I’m done. Not another nickel to the National Republican Committee. Not another hour of work for any Republican candidate who supports this travesty. And especially not a vote for any Republican who is for this thing either. Even if that means not voting at all.

You did it - you lost me. And I know you don’t really care about that. Sure hope you get lots of support from Teddy and his bunch.

Sincerely,
ColoradoRight and family

MJ of Freedom Folks created this You Tube Video, which caused this controversial response.

Don Surber writes:

I understand Bush’s paternalistic attitude toward immigrants. Of course, we should welcome immigrants.

Legal ones, not those who break our laws.

Bush has the two confused. And as conservatives respectively try to educate the White House on this subject, Bush is becoming more beligerent.

Vapor in the Wind writes:

How does overlooking the law make it more likely we can enforce our border? That makes absolutely no sense. And why should we expect these new "security and enforcement measures" to be enforced any better than current security and enforcement measures? What a waste of taxpayers money. Nobody wants to solve this problem, because it would be bad for business.

The Governments Revolution

The criminals have had a three-decade long Revolution going in the way our government conducts itself. Why would anyone be foolish enough to think they would start keeping their word now?

How can an economy thrive that has been turned over to the criminals in the government, business, the illegal invaders and all of the crime that surrounds it??

How can we continue without the United States Constitution for a foundation???

Carson, you are right. It

Carson, you are right. It would be foolish to think the government would begin to keep their word on anything.

I just read this article

I just read this article that the US Immigration office will double the fee to become a legal citizen.

Like the politicians, I also wonder if this is a way to prevent people from coming to America or just another way to bring more money to the government...or both?

Do we really need to hire all these government employees?

immigration bill is a FARCE

For those who have not read the details of this bill, I strongly suggest you take some time and do so. Otherwise in
another 10 or 15 years your children and grand children will be asking you if you were sleeping when this
legislation was passed and why we did not do something about it. More sinister details about this immigration bill
are here for those interested. I read this and said GOD SAVE OUR COUNTRY. If all of us don’t wake up and do
something, these politicians will turn this great land into a third world dumpster pretty soon. Please write/call your senators and speak up before it is too late.

This is complicated by hypocrisies from up on
high

First of all if the applicable law were enforced whole industries would be in jail or facing fines. There would not be a food producer, restaurant, construction company or service agency that has not hired undocumented workers.

Did anyone boycott restaurants that had undocumented workers serving them or clearing the tables?

Did you care who cleaned up after you when you left the stadium? Or mowed your lawn? Watched your neighbor's baby?

Did you ask your store manager who picked the tomato or cut up your chicken leg at Foster Farms?

Did it matter to you that American workers could not get work cleaning up after Katrina but score of Mexican workers were hired by contractors to do the work instead?

How many hypocrisies can any of us stand up to?

You can't have it both ways. If there wasn't a demand for their services they would not have stayed.

If the borders were truly secured after 9/11 not as many undocumented workers would be here. Are the border secure?

If the cash generated by said workers was so repellent then no merchant, including Chase, Bank of America and Well Fargo would not have bypass Federal laws to establish alternative forms of credit card access for undocumented workers.

I read the post about the loop holes in the new bill. I have to find the original source to find out if it is accurately portraying the bill in question.

Here is the true question. Can your country be bought by special interests? In this case, yes. The business sector made the decision long ago to bypass American workers for undocumented workers.

I will never fault a man or woman trying to improve their lives. You can't legislate that.

I can however fault a system of "wink, wink" economics that has brought use to this point. The government (city, state and federal) failed to implement on the book laws.

This is how the mess will be "cleaned" up. We're screwed ourselves.

Ron, thank you for the link.

Gena, you do have a point. The "under the table" method of politics is still strong today. I doubt if it will ever end.

As for the jobs that Americans will or will not do, I'm rather conflicted by this.

I know several jobless people who cannot get hired because they lack certain qualifications and have been forced to pick pickles on farms during the summers where I live.

I know other people who are very picky about jobs and are finding ways to stay on welfare instead of working. That type of laziness frustrates me.

I'm all for immigration, I just wish immigrants wouldn't break our laws.

I don't know if any Immigration Reform Bill will fix this mess.
