Desire X has a post up about feminism and sex blogging that takes a look back at Gloria Steinem in a bunny outfit in the 60s and threads through to Audacia Ray's new book Naked on the Internet and the focused energy of Viviane's Sex Carnival and Chelsea Girl.
She says:
"Feminism and sex blogging... These terms seem to be almost contradictory to the mainstream perception of feminists. The idea of a woman using her sexuality to express herself goes against the societal expectation of the stringent, almost dogmatic concept of feminism. That women should promote their minds and not their bodies. That sexuality should be put on a shelf to gather dust in the quest to achieve equality. After all, people aren't going to value the weight of the message if they are too distracted by the package. The old hypocrisy that ugly girls are smart and pretty girls are dumb is still stubbornly insinuated into the matrix of modern thinking."

It's true that many female relationship bloggers clock themselves behind other identities, but it's also true that women--cloaked or not--are doing powerful writing about themselves and their experiences that harkens back to the stuborn bravery of the first feminists.

I am excited that at Blogher this year we are going to have an opportunity to hear more voices like Deisre X's, and to get women writing about sex and relationships in a room--with truth and privacy--to talk with one another.
