Would you like bloggers to cover your nonprofit event? Why not give out a "bloggership"? That's what Sistersong did for their 2nd National Conference: Let's Talk About Sex! During her keynote at the 2007 Making Media Connections Conference, Sistersong's National Coordinator, Loretta Ross, talked about how bloggership recipients were asked to blog before, during and after the event to create buzz in the blogosphere.

The National Summit to Ensure the Health and Humanity of Pregnant and Birthing Women also gave out bloggerships. In her post, "Yipee!", Women of Color Blog wrote about her bloggership for the Summit:

"I will be using this amazing opportunity to hit up as many women of color organizers as I can–and spread their knowledge on this blog. So stayed tuned for more information!!"

AngryBlackBitch wrote about her Summit bloggership:

"The best part is that I know my volunteer work with pregnant and birthing women here in St. Louis will benefit from this experience."

At the 2006 NetSquared Conference (where I am the Community Builder), we offered 50% off the registration for attendees who volunteered to liveblog during the event.

Bloggerships can be an inexpensive way to increase exposure for your event while providing an opportunity for bloggers who may not be able to afford to attend otherwise.

Do you know of other nonprofit events that have offered bloggerships? If so, what worked and what didn't? What is a bloggership model that can be replicated by other nonprofits?

Where do I find out about such bloggerships? I would love to take up such opportunities if possible :)

Hi Tiara,

I think these are quite new so I don't have a central place to send you to find them, but perhaps next time you see an event you would like to go to you could propose it to the event managers as a work/trade for your admission.
