BlogHer CE Debra Roby writes:

BTW, we STILL need a good music CE. I need some recommendations for workout tunes that were recorded after the year 2000!!

Well I'm not the good music CE of Debra's dreams but I did offer to answer this question and possibly offer up a few more music posts while the search for the dream CE continues and Lisa Stone has graciously allowed me to do so.

As it so happens I had a stack of workout tunes suggestions sitting on my desk just waiting for this post request!

Not all of these tracks are post-2000 but there are plenty of contemporary suggestions. The recommendations contain many tunes that while you might not listen to them for musical enjoyment, do make excellent motivators to get get your butt in gear even if you're not very happy about it.

Case in point: "Don't Cha" by the Pussycat Dolls. Publicly you maintain your musical credibility by abhorring lines like "don't cha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me?" coming from a group of minimally dressed young women assembled by the sister of a Beverly Hills hairdresser and fronted by a member of a failed reality show competition pop group. But privately when that Heineken commercial comes on your booty involuntarily starts shaking. Such is the power of the right beat.

Fitness magazine has handily compiled that little gem and 99 others with convenient links to purchase from iTunes. Some of their trainers and favorite athletes also share their personal workout playlists with you.

The simplehuman blog created their own playlist in 2006 and then picked their favorites in 2007 from the Fitness top 100 and added some of their own favs.

If it's too much work or too overwhelming to put your own playlist together you can purchase ready made sets from sites like Power Music, or the workout section of iTunes. The Nike Sport Music section of iTunes also offers workouts set to music as does the site Podfitness.

If you do prefer creating your own playlist the site Best Workout Music offers a variety of tools to to create a playlist that matches the tempo of your workout. And check their blog for more hints and tips.

And, Debra, in answer to your question, here are 15 totally subjective personal suggestions (mostly post-2000) from me (taken from the Fitness and simplehuman lists plus a few of my own). And please everyone else chime in and add your own suggestions for kick ass workout tunes to score a workout that kicks your ass.
