As part of this year's conference "extras," BlogHer's Gold Sponsor, Yahoo!, is hosting an on-site Internet Cafe & Bookstore. The Cafe will be open to all attendees throughout both conference days, and will feature a free espresso bar, cafe tables, lounge furniture, and wifi. (Plus a few ethernet hook-ups for those of you doing heavy-duty downloading.)

The Cafe will also feature a special BlogHer Bookstore, where we'll be stocking, selling, and offering signings of books written by...you. We are pleased to announce that Barnes & Noble Booksellers will be setting up a mini-store, full of titles that are not only relevant to women bloggers, but also written by them.

If you have written (or contributed) to a book that you would like for us to offer for sale at the BlogHer Bookstore, please let us know! We'd love to include your book and, if you're interested, schedule a time for you to do a book signing. To request that your book be included, simply:

  • Submit the book title, publisher, date of publication, and ISBN (if you have it). Please note that, unfortunately, Barnes & Noble cannot stock self-published titles.
  • Tell us how many copies you would like us to carry.
  • Let us know if you would like to schedule a book signing, and what day/times might work best for you.
  • Email me (Kristy) with this information by Monday morning, July 9. Requests made after this date cannot be accommodated!

We will be stocking the bookstore on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will do our best to honor as many requests as possible.

We're excited to have this opportunity to promote our community's authors, and look forward to seeing you at the Cafe. Thanks to Barnes & Noble for helping make this possible, and especially to our gracious host, Yahoo!, for their continued support of all our BlogHers.

I think this is a completely awesome and fabulous idea, and I would love it if you could include a few copies of my (co-authored) book. It is a bit niche, but a niche that may be of interest to political/library bloggers, and of course I would be happy to sign. I might even be able to talk at least 1, maybe 2 of my 3 co-authors to join us.

Here's the publisher info on the book, Privacy in the 21st Century: Issues Facing Public, School, and Academic Libraries: http://lu.com/showbook.cfm?isbn=1591582091

No reason you should be sure, since I'm not sure :)

We're thinking right now about when there's a good time/location for a swap meet type thing like we did last year.

Sounds great, but I guess it's only open to people who are attending the conference?

Is there going to be a place for self published authors to feature their work?

Thanks so much for clarifying the stance, Elisa. I appreciate that so very much. I will be sure to submit the authors that I feel would well represent, surely doubting it will hit over 50 different titles.

Since Elizabeth Edwards is going to speak at the conference...Could we get her book? I saw an interview she did with Oprah about the book, and it actually moved me to tears.

But I should say that B&N isn't going to bring an unlimited supply of books. They're stocking up on these just for the conference and may balk if we try to get them to bring 50 different titles. If we have to prioritize we'll of course prioritize authors who are actually there attending, whether or not they choose to sign up for a signing :)

...for those who are self published to have a place to sell their books. Seeing as BlogHer is about promoting their members and their works and all. Just seems to fit in with the do-ocracy of original BlogHer.

That being said, great news that B&N is so willing to work with you and sell some titles that have been published from the BlogHer community.

Question: What about those who have their books in a local bookstore such as B&N but are unable to attend BlogHer? Can someone else request that those be represented even if it means they cannot be signed? I know of a few that would be BIG hits with BlogHers and have been requested more than once by bloggers.

YAY! Great idea. I'm thrilled about the bookstore.

And yes, in the future the self-publishers need to be represented!

Well, when you put it THAT way... :) No, I think it's a good thing. Books are good. And yeah, support for self-publishers would be awesome. Especially with all the "blooks" out there.

Well, given the choice between a) a bookstore that would spend their own money to order whichever books we ask for and therefore be able to sell some titles from our community, and b) no bookstore selling no books from nobody...we chose the former :)

Perhaps if Barnes & Noble has great success this year we can use that as leverage for next year to find a bookseller who will be open to self-published titles. That would be awesome.

That makes me a little sad. Coz self-publishing is what bloggers are all about, doncha think?
