Calling all Chicagoland volunteering types...we need you!

BlogHer is two weeks away, and we could use some more volunteers. because of the short time frame, and the fact that we cannot provide travel expenses, to volunteers, I assume that Chicago bloggers are my most likely suspects. (If you're not from Chicago and can pay your own way there, I'm more than happy to take non-Chicagoans too.)

You need to arrive by Thursday and can leave any time after the final breakout session on Saturday.

Here are the roles we are looking to fill:

  • Live Bloggers - live blog at least 2 assigned sessions per day to your own blog. You need a laptop with WIFI, a blog, and an interest in scribing your assigned sessions for the benefit of people who can't be there. We're looking for an objective reporting on what happens in the sessions, not subjective analysis.
  • Microphone wranglers and general assistance - Work the registration desk in the mornings and run the microphone in several sessions to enable attendees to be heard as they ask questions or comment.
  • Audio recorders - Like the live-bloggers, except you're holding a digital audio recording device instead of typing in your blog. We prefer folks who have their own recording device, because we only have a couple on hand ourselves.
  • Any of the above roles will earn a free conference pass for anyone not already registered for the conference, in exchange for two days of moderate work, but no heavy lifting, we promise.

In addition, we'd like to know if anyone in the community who plans to be at BlogHer would like to help us with this:

  • Birds of a Feather Coordinators - for the last two years BlogHer Nancy White, joined by Toby Bloomberg last year, organized our Birds of a Feather sessions. You can learn more about those here. This year, sadly, neither of those wonderful women will be on hand to wrangle these sessions, so we need two other warm, wonderful, welcoming BlogHers. This entails sitting at a table near registration on Friday morning manning several dozen clipboards. We may make some friendly suggestions for a couple of topics, but the rest will be blank waiting for attendees to fill in the kinds of flock they want to eat lunch with that day. When the opening session starts, the Birds of a Feather volunteers will compile the final list of Birds of a Feather groups and turn them over, so we can quickly allocate each group to a table or tables for lunch. Come in for lunch and find your flock, thanks to the BIrds of a Feather volunteers.
  • This job is really perfect for anyone who would like to make BlogHer newbies feel comfortable and welcome from the very first moment they walk in to pick up their badge.

if you are interested, please email me with the following information:

    Preferred volunteer job:
    Full name:
    Email address:
    Cell phone:
Blog URL (where you'd post a live-blog post):
Preferred sessions: Please pick at least 2, and preferably more, sessions per day that you'd like to cover, whether live-blogging, audio recording or microphone wrangling. We don't guarantee that everyone only covers their favorite sessions, but we do our best.

    The day's schedules are here:
    Day One
    Day Two

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to working with you!

Would be very interested. I am from Boston, but I don't mind getting there on my own.

    Thanks,

I would be more than happy to volunteer, but I'll be off at a dude ranch in Colorado at that time.

I appreciated all of your efforts last year and hope you'll be back in the BOF seat next year. :-)

I'm so sad that I can't make BlogHer this year. I had the best time working with Nancy on Birds of a Feather. It was a great opportunity to meet people and have a birds eye view (ouch did I say that?) of the topics that will be discussed. Happy to answer any questions.
