I was shocked and saddened when I heard the news on the radio late this afternoon that lesbian activist, Del Martin, had died this morning, August 27, 2008. Her wife, partner of 55 years, Phyllis Lyon was by her side when she died. After hearing the news, I immediately went my computer to make sure it was true. I couldn't quite believe it. It was confirmed by a story on CNN.com.

She's amazing, my little girl. I drop her at school in the morning and see her everywhere, in everything, during the day. I kiss her goodnight, and my dreams, they are filled with her giggles. Even in the moments when I'm screaming inside to be left alone so I can just write, read, think or even shower, I still ache to stay with her and touch the curve of her cheek. Senator Clinton's speech tonight was spectacular. She was powerful, gracious and Presidential. As a young girl growing up in the ‘60s, I was raised in a sheltered New England community. Back then, I had yet to see a female newscaster, a female doctor, a female astronaut, or a female soldier. My young mind would have thought such a thing impossible.

Hillary Clinton came out representing New York minutes ago and proclaimed that her state was giving all of their votes to Senator Obama, then she called for an affirmation to suspend the roll call and vote as one body to support Barack Obama as president. Nancy Pelosi asked for a second, there were hundreds, and she asked for a vote, the house roared, and she announced he is the official nominee of the Democratic party. We've made history.
