Updated: You in Ten Seconds: Join the BlogMe2007 Meme
by Lisa Stone

They're ba-a-a-a-ck: The wonder women who brought us BlogMe last year have returned with another great meme for BlogHers to meet each other.

And so, once again I say: You. Need. This. Button. Whether you're going to BlogHer '07 or not. There are more than 13,000 women on this site who want to know you, girl.

Plus, it's easy and fun. Here's what you do:

1. Copy this tag into your post so we can find you:

<a href="http://technorati.com/tag/blogme2007" alt="blogme2007 introduction meme">blogme2007</a>

2. Intro yourself in a few short sentences (examples below).

3. Use the logo if you want some bling:

<img src="http://www.blogher.com/system/files?file=BlogMe2007Logo.JPG">

4. You're done!

The creator, Mocha Momma, launched the party yesterday by describing why she changed last year's ten-question interview into this year's ten-second self-introduction:

"[I]t really helped in knowing some things about the women I was going to meet last year at the BlogHer conference, but I was overwhelmed in trying to read everything about them. This year the number of women attending has doubled which means that much more amazing writers will get to mingle and learn from one another. What if I wrote a post that took 10 seconds to read and then you could go on your merry way or click on another attendees blog to read about them in 10 seconds? Wouldn’t life be much happier?

"That’s what I thought..."

Mocha closes with huge props to Blogger Rocks in My Dryer for the marvy logo, and then dives back in with her own ten-second intro. (Note: Don't worry if you have trouble getting to her site -- methinks her poor servers are groaning under her popularity :)

Folks are already diving in. Check out Assertagirl:

"When I was sixteen I was EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR at the McDonald’s restaurant I worked at..."

...and Leahpeah, in classic humor:

"Leah Peterson is a freelance and sometimes professional writer, photographer, artist and crafter. She is a compulsive starter-upper and now hosts two reading series, a craft-trading site and a blogger network. Leah also believes in sustainability, conserving resources and is herself made from 100% recycled material.

...and Blogography, whose testimony to La Mocha comes with logo:

"Because I love Mocha Momma more than life itself, I'm joining in..."

So, kids, what are you waiting for? Tapping foot. Join in below, or participate on your own blog. I'll put mine below as soon as I post...

Ten-second me

I grew up in Montana and part of me is still in aisle 11 at K-mart trying on Garanimals with my sisters. My six years as a single mother taught me much more than college. I love to write but I may be a better waitress. I left traditional journalism for online in 1997 because it felt so much more real than anything I was asked to read or produce in print or broadcast. I started BlogHer because Elisa and Jory are smart enough to make anything happen -- and because I didn't want to wait for women who blog to be validated by any outside group when we can do it ourselves. And look: We are.

Britt Bravo

I grew up in Mystic, CT (the town Mystic Pizza was based on) and live in Oakland, CA. I'm a Leo who shares a birthday with Bill Clinton, Orville Wright and Kyra Sedgewick. I love to bake, eat and read blogs about cupcakes.

Most asked question: Is that your real name?

Yes, but it is my husband's last name. My maiden name is Aageson.

Favorite quote:

I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.

A Bird in Ten Seconds

I love my African Grey parrot, Ramses. My home is always a disaster zone thanks to my two boys, ages 12 and 10. My favorite hobbies are hula-hooping, dancing, singing, and writing. I used to sell Avon until a few months ago, and now I'm writing, eBaying Western junk and books, and preparing to teach middle school-aged kids in the fall.

I love margaritas and getting caught in the rain, and yes. I am into disco. Sorry. I have a major herbal tea obsession. I am half deaf in my left ear and partially deaf in my right ear (I have NEVER mentioned this in my writing until this moment) thanks to a stupid genetic defect and say "What? What? What?" all the time.

Valbee in 10 seconds (but probably more)

I've spent the majority of my life feeling as though I'm never at the same "life stage" as others my age (which is now 41).

I was a young mom, a young widow, an old college student and I'm still waiting for my career to begin, whatever that might be. In the meantime, I'm a circ desk supervisor in an academic library. It's the best job I've ever had, but still not quite enough.

Coming to BlogHer is the biggest thing I've done in years. Dare I say it? I have a feeling it's going to change my life. Yet again. :)

Disorderly Conduct

Valbee, I'm 41, too, and unsure what my
career will be!

I'm just finding out who I am for the first time in my life after a busted marriage (well it broke long ago, but still...) and kids growing up, growing independent. I'm so excited for my first BlogHer, and can't wait to meet everyone.

ThreeSeven in Ten

I grew up in Nova Scotia, and whenever I go back it feels like I never left. I married an Upper Canadian, and it amuses me. I probably think you think I'm a dork. My dog insists on sleeping under the covers of my bed. I quit my job two months ago and I've never felt more human since then. I recently discovered I am an INFP, and finding that out explained a great deal. I won't remember your name; this is just one of those things. I am in the middle of a relaunch of my life, and it's kinda fun.

ThreeSeven... attention deficits at work.

randomness of me

hi i’m elysa, betcha already knew that. i have a weird love of technology. i am a blonde computer nerd (is that an oxy moron). i am a 25 year old graphic designer. my favorite color changes every time someone asks. i suck at sports and all things requiring athletic abilities. i don’t even know how to ride a bike, how ridiculous is that? i am a born and raised texas girl but i don’t know that i’ve ever worn a pair of cowboy boots. i believe there are lessons to learn in every aspect of life.

so there is the randomness of me - i am a daughter, sister, fiance, friend, student, designer, and i am me.

ps - i like to type in lowercase :D

As if I could do ANYTHING, in ten seconds - besides shave my legs, hide under the covers and make up flimsy excuses for the amount of dirty laundry, or dust bunnies of enormous size, of course - but, Mocha Mom has this great way of knowing just what it takes to make a person feel, you know, welcome.

So, what can I say…about myself…that sums me up in a nut shell - shuddup! - well, since I’m already late for an appointment (I know, act surprised) how about this?

* Mother of 4, subhuman caretaker to 2 cats and 1 sock-eating Doofus-dog.
* Lover of multi-functional gadgets and slayer of all appliances proved either slow and/or inefficient.
* Wife, of nearly 17 years, to The Hubs - rarely photographed, but is said to be a cross between Dennis Miller and Garth Brooks.
* Born under the sign of Gemini and a very proud twin sister to a Sgt. 1st Class - Go Army!
* Daughter to a doer and a dreamer.
* Loved by many; even though she’s a total DORK!

Sounds more like a epitaph - I know! - but, I haven’t flown in nearly 15 years and I do believe that the 2 1/2 hour ride just may kill me!

If anyone needs me, I’ll be cleaning, packing and white-knuckling my way through the week!

10 Seconds If You Read Slowly

What a great idea! Looking forward to meeting you all. Here's mine.

ten seconds of moi

My friends gave me this trip to Chicago as a 40th birthday present.

My birthday is on August 4th.

I am a full-time cancer patient, living a really full life.

I have been with my spouse for more than 16 years.

It was NOT love at first sight.

I must not have been wearing my glasses.

My sons are as different as two boys can be, except that they are both brilliant, beautiful and loving.

They also drive me crazy and I love them to distraction.

I love Scrabble, wine, dark chocolate, knitting and a really good book.

I love the way my dog smells.

I am completely bilingual in French and English.

I am happy.

This was more than 10 seconds.

Okay, I finally finished this ten seconds

I always write too much. Greater economy of words is a skill I'm hoping to enhance in J-school....

See y'all tomorrow!

I just joined BlogHer this week, and am very happy to have found this amazing community! Thanks for the meme – it's a great way for a newcomer like me to join in. I've posted my intro on my blog .

See you Saturday on Navy Pier! Notice the Ferris Wheel? Our friends Deb and Scott got married in one of the cars. Whee!

Ten Seconds of Deaf Mom

I was born with normal hearing, grew up hard of hearing in a family with five generations of hearing loss. When I was 19, I was barefooting (waterskiing on my bare feet) and slammed into the water sideways. I thought I had water in my ears for days--turns out I had become deaf.
The hubby is deaf, my three kids are deaf and hard of hearing and we live with a dog who can hear a rabbit breathing a half mile away and barks to let us know.
Before you clutch your heart and sigh, I should share that we live a full life--a nice house in a nice subdivision in a nice town in the Midwest--we just can't hear. Most of our communication goes on via lipreading or sign. So if we ever meet, plop yourself front and center, slow your speech down just a tad and I promise not to bite.
I'm a Leo who enjoys books and hot baths and the occasional margarita or grape-flavored Koolaid.

10 seconds in The Word Cellar

I'm a freelance writer and editor who until recently thought I had absolutely no talent in the visual arts. But I've been painting and no one has laughed yet. I long for the sea and feel most like myself near large bodies of water. (Yet I live in a nearly landlocked state.) I need everyday beauty to feel whole. I'm not sure if I've ever been stung by a bee, and my very first cavity at the age of 23 involved a root canal. I'm currently reading The Artist's Way and it's changing my life. If you like good food, deep conversation, and thinking for yourself, let's be friends!

(Why do I feel like I just wrote a personal ad?)

Bird...in 10 seconds...

I'm 40, separated, raising my 15 year old daughter, i love living near the water, sometimes i forget to capitalize my "i"s, i adore CSI: Las Vegas, I'm a floral designer, I love to eat crusty french bread, ice cream, peanut butter fudge and my mom's meatloaf, which, incidentally, never turns out the same way twice. Stay away from her pork chops, though... they could put a hole in your wall!

Ten Second Me

Rarely laugh at jokes, but have no trouble laughing at myself and at life in general. If money were no object I would be traveling the world, talking to women in business and sharing their stories. Alas and alack, money is an object that I have to include in my lifestyle.Big transition year for me, my daughter is off to college in six weeks and that will leave me and my dog Uma Thurman to fend for ourselves.

Ten Second Me

I was an accomplished tomboy as a kid. Still am, I guess. I'm sure I'll be the oldest person at BlogHer: the tomboy with gray hair. I look forbidding on the outside, but give me a chance and I'll show you that I'm not. I think about boring stuff like HTML. I wake up at 5:30 AM eager to write about it, so I'm not much of a party girl. I want to take your photograph.

10 sec me

I was born in blue-collar western Massachusetts and have lived as far west as Colorado and as far east as England, with the last 25 years in and around NYC. I have no living relatives. Lots of dear friends. I read a lot, love estate sales, rummage sales, flea markets. Am fairly Bohemian in nature, love paisley, good books, strong coffee, good art. I am looking forward to the happy end of my long search for a house in Massachusetts where I will re invent my life once again. Jazz fan. Love gardening. Can't make a decent pie crust to save my life and can't sew worth spit.
