Post weblink vs. List your blog

Is posting a web link the same as listing your own blog? It looks like it to me - clicking either seems to lead to the same UI.

Just checking - I would like to add a link to the blogroll, but am not sure which way to go.

I'm sort of nitpicking here, I know, but stay with me...

1. Click Create New Content
2. Selct Weblink
3. Read the following text:
For the title, use your blog's name.

But it's not MY blog I want to enter, it's another blog.

Should I just ignore the terminology here and proceed to add the blog?

Thanks.

Weblink posts end up in the blogroll

So yes, what you should put into the "Title" field of the weblink form is the blog's name, whether it's your blog or someone else's.

In other words, if you put "Boing Boing" in the title field of the weblink form, "Boing Boing" is what would end up in the blogroll. If you put, "This is a really cool blog," then guess what would appear in the blogroll -- not the blog's name.

(The BlogHer site admins have to approve each weblink created to prevent potential spam.)

No spam = whew!

"(The BlogHer site admins have to approve each weblink created to prevent potential spam.)"

This is an excellent approach and I support it 100%. No need to explain (too frequently ;), most everyone has had trouble with spam nowadays...

Also: safeguarding the new BlogHer site will ensure it maintains its level of high-quality content. The spamming at misbehaving.net turned me off of it for a while because it looked like no one cared enough to guard it or put up fences to filter out the (many, many) spam comments.

Pam, I've been doing a bit

Pam,

I've been doing a bit of this the past couple days. Did you get the Editor's FAQ?? On page 5, are the directions for entering someone else's blog.

It's pretty much like adding your own, except that we have been asked NOT to describe the blog. Instead we should add this line:

, "Is this your blog? If so, please claim it by listing your blog."

A note on that

If a new person registers, they will not automatically be able to edit existing blog listings. Rather, they'll have to create their own, or ask one of the site maintainers to change the discription.

Also please note that hard-coded internal links here will break once we launch the Beta version and point the BlogHer.org domain pointers here. (For Drupal-savvy folks, this is because we'll be moving to "clean URLs".)

Thanks

I get it now!
I will start adding links. I was seeing the text..."Is this your blog" and wondered if it was for the person who'd listed the blog.

Ah HA.

Hopelessly Lost

I know this shouldn't be so difficult, but I cannot figure out how to post something from my own blog.
Any help out there?

Hi Terri: Do you mean that

Hi Terri:

Do you mean that you want to list your blog in our blog rolls, or do you mean that you want to point us to a post you've written on your blog.

If the former: use the 'List a Blog' link from the top horizontal navigation.

If the latter: then you can post "hot links" even to yourself in the Forums here.

Does this help?

Not sure

Not sure if this helps or not, because I did list my blog last night but I don't see it listed here.
And I tried to list a post from my blog with the way you said, but it didn't say "personal blog entry" to the left column.
Also....do we type in Read More with a link there to be directed to the said blog posting?
Thanks for your help.

Terri - maybe I can help?

If you submitted your blog using the List a Blog/weblink features then it takes some time before your blog appears on the blogroll. This is because Jory, Elisa and Lisa need to click through to your blog to be sure you aren't spam. :-)

Once it's been approved it can be found on the main blogroll list or under whichever categories you linked your blog with.

You mention personal blog entry and such - are you a contributing editor? If you aren't then you can't create a personal blog entry. If you are a contributing editor but do not see that option then you are probably experiencing a bug or you did not enter the contributing editor code that Lisa sent to you.

Does that help?

Terri: Does this help?

Hi Terri:

You submitted your blog last night right after I quite approving for the evening, so it's been sitting there for a while in the queue. Sorry about that. It's approved and in the Blog Rolls now.

If you've read something on the site about creating a "personal blog entry" by clicking in the left hand column, then that was a conversation between or instructions to one of our contributing editors. Sorry for the confusion. They're the only ones who create blog entries on the actual site.

What any member can do, however, is point people to blog entries on their own blogs by using the Forum Hot Links topic. Go to Add a new forum topic and point people to a post you're proud of. Link out to your own blog when you do this.

How about now? Did I get it?

Thank you

Thanks, Elisa. I do believe I'm getting the hang of this now.
I'll give it a try and thanks so much for your help. I appreciate it.

Hey, since we're asking

Hey, since we're asking questions...

How do I upload a photo to one of my posts? I've seen a couple editors do it, but my one attempt was not successful.
