There's a whole other blogging world extant just beneath the surface of the regular ol' world o' blogs: The Realm Of Flickr. There you can actually SEE -- in 3-dimensional color and/or black and white (in the case of some Flickr artistes) -- layers of M&F bloggers lives laid bare in images often not seen on their "regular" blogs.

Some bloggers chronicle the life and times of the inanimate world, some collect humorous objects for their own amusement. A few capture breathtaking images of their travels, lives, and families worthy of gallery exhibition, while others offer candid snapshots that give blog readers a breadth and depth of insight into the author's daily life unavailable elsewhere.

Whether the photos are quotidian or awe-inspriring in subject matter and/or in composition, for fans of these and other M&F blogs, Flickr complements and deepens our conception of bloggers lives. Its compelling stuff, well worth looking into.

I'm fighting my Flickr addiction as well. Lately I've been neglecting it, hopefully this will inspire me to get my act together.

My favorite two moms who use Flickr are Toyfoto ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/toyfoto/ ) and Dockmaster. ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/blahblahblah/ ) Both amazing photographers that capture their children in moments I wish I had for myself.

Before Grace turned me on to Flickr, I did not know I needed it. Now, I am hopelessly addicted, thanks a LOT. A camera is as essential to me as a keyboard and now I have the nearly instant means to get those pics attached to my blog.

I don't think of myself as a photographer, much less a visual person, but I have been able to tell stories through my basic digital snapshots on flickr. This has transformed the way I approach imagery, most especially the images I capture and caption. In the lexicon of these Web 2.0 times, I happily call myself a "passionate user" of flickr.

Thanks for writing about this, Tracey.

I, too, love Flickr. The thing that is really wonderful is how integrated this whole thing is becoming. You can post to Flickr from Blogger, for instance, and vice versa. You can also post vlogs from Blip to Flickr or to Blogger.

The amazing thing is that all of this is still free (well--I guess I did pay for Flickr). I'm wondering if we are living the golden age of blogging...and whether it will become more costly in the future.

I still think that Flickr is the quintessential web service - and far and away my favourite. Simple to use and understand - yet, the more you use it, the more ways you find to use (and enjoy) it still more. I've hardly scratched the surface of it as a producer of images - but my enjoyment of the work of others is immense.
