I've been on a podcast kick lately and I've been especially drawn to lectures and author talks. My alma mater, like several colleges and universities, has been offering lectures via podcast for a while. As this post by Alex Williams at Corante describes, podcasting has been popular with students.
I've seen and heard quite a bit of discussion among faculty members about the pros and cons of posting lecture notes and/or powerpoints from classes online, and I'm willing to bet similar conversations are addressing podcasts. I'm only starting to think about this issue, but my inclination is to embrace it. I'm curious to hear what others have to say on the topic.
On a related note, online Lectures from MIT are available as streaming video. See the description at I See Invisible People. Thanks to Melinda Casino for the tip.
I wonder what's the more popular format for delivering lectures electronically, video or audio only. Does the portability of an MP3 trump the visual cues available in a video file? I'll be keeping an eye out for more on this topic.
