I wanted to avoid it but I just couldn't. Everyone is talking about the Academy Awards. I didn't find it especially interesting except for when the rumors about Crash getting the Academy award came true.
I agree, Crash was a very good movie but I think Brokeback Mountain was hands down a spectacular film. I don't go to see movies twice except that time my children dragged me to Star Wars, Episode 3,200 and then fell asleep, leaving me alone in a movie theater full of teenagers..I'm sorry I ramble. My point here is I did go see Brokeback twice.
Here are a few other bloggers talking about the Academy Awards.
Marti at Enter The Laughter has a hilarious Nascar spoof on the show.
"MIKE THE NASCAR ANNOUNCER: There's Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken!
JEFF THE NASCAR ANNOUNCER: Naw, that's Robert Altman. He must be dyin', they's givin' him the lifetime award."
Kris at I'm Not a girl Not yet a Wino, has a creative run-down herself.
Come Again?
"Please welcome Keanu Reeves, star of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Speed, several Matrices, and more recently, ABC's In Need of Extreme Makeover: Career Edition!"
And finally Lucky White Girl has some more serious thoughts she would like to share.
"Brokeback was a good story. But the characters... eh. The one guy mumbles through the whole thing. A lot's left unsaid. And that's fine. Worked for Hemingway. I just am a very verbal person. I like words. And the music and the scenery and the immense sadness that these two lives/loves were so unfulfilled. Of course I cried. It deserved an Oscar. In fact, it deserved three Oscars.
But Crash was just slightly better. And despite what Mr. Turan implies in his editorial I think it is possible to think that and not be homophobic."
It matters less that all of our opinions may be different. It matters more that we are reading them and respecting them.
Now where is my George Clooney doll?
