Nearly three months after she was abducted in Iraq, American journalist Jill Carroll entered the office of a Sunni Arab political party asking if she could call the U.S. Embassy-freed by her captors.

Media reports indicate the 28-year-old freelancer emerged unharmed. Carroll told Baghdad Television she was "treated very well" while being held captive, prompting a flurry of blog activity.

As reported by Blogher, Natasha Tynes is keeping her site updated with the latest on Carroll's release. Tynes is also making the rounds on CNN and other news networks.

The National Review's John Podhoretz says "It's wonderful that she's free, but after watching someone who was a hostage for three months say on television she was well-treated because she wasn't beaten or killed -- while being dressed in the garb of a modest Muslim woman rather than the non-Muslim woman she actually is -- I expect there will be some Stockholm Syndrome talk in the coming days."

Wonderland or Not writes "So tell me.if you were taken hostage in some foreign country by people hostile to your governement and these people made you dress in a way you were opposed to but really wanted to stay alive and if the people actually treated you well except for the fact that they weren't going to let you go would you spit in their face and tell them you wanted your gap jeans and tank top?"

Think Progress says "This is a day that we should celebrate Jill Carroll's courage. She put herself in danger to try to give the world a more accurate picture of Iraq. It is totally inappropriate to assume that her description of how she was treated is motivated by anything other than a desire to tell the truth."

And the Republic of T writes "To be expected, I suppose. Given how the right wingers responded when the three christian peace activists were released last week - including remarks that the three should be returned to their captors, as their experience hadn't made them sufficiently pro-war - I suppose this is just another 'preemptive strike."

Reuters reports interim Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert signaled he was open to right-wing parties joining a government he hopes to form but an associate said they must accept the idea of West Bank pullbacks.

Laili of A Diary of a Mother Under Occupation writes "In the face of grim political prospects and ever-increasing physical and economic isolation, Palestinians in Gaza are reacting to the Israeli elections with indignant apathy."

Meanwhile the US, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations are warning the Hamas-led Palestinian government that it must seek peace talks and recognize Israel if it wants continued aid.

Speaking of recognitionThe Palestinian Princess would like to see MySpace recognize Palestine.
