Pass the Stones

By: Denise Topics: Health & Wellness

A friend of mine was in the hospital last week because of severe abdominal pain. For awhile the doctors thought she might have a kidney stone, they even did a cystogram to make sure there wasn't a translucent stone hiding in the kidney causing the pain. There wasn't, which is too bad, because she's still in pain and the doctors aren't sure why.

When I had a kidney stone about 10 years ago the pain was significantly worse than any of the three childbirths I had experienced. Hard to believe something that small can cause that much pain, isn't it?

Andrea, at atypical life (one of my favorite homeschool blogs), describes the pain really nicely...

I feel like someone planted a roundhouse kick to my side ...

I think if I ever have another kidney stone, I might consult a massage therapist like Linda who recently "helped pass" a kidney stone.

My client had been suffering for a week. I used visceral manipulation to move the stone. Gently loading pressure onto the ureter (while constantly monitoring the discomfort level of my client) I "stretched" the ureters down toward the bladder.

Oh and something else, if I ever have another kidney stone I'm going to sell it on eBay or use it as an engagement ring, I haven't decided which. (I can't bring myself to link you to the live journal user who is most often associated with that last little kidney stone idea...)
