Is it the spring solstice that creates longings for our inner chickpeas? It is SOMEthing because the easy, tasty garbanzo bean spread called hummus is appearing on food blogs everywhere. At Gluten Free Goddess, find Jalapeno & Lime Hummus. Zen Foodism created a Mediterranean Hummus. Simply Recipes calls for roasted tahini in her basic hummus. ToastPoint loves a Spicy Hummus. And 28 Cooks tried a Thai Basil Hummus -- with peanut butter!

Three Hours Later: Well this is so much fun, I wondered if I'd missed any hummus posts. Lo and behold there were more ...

Cooking Medley gave her hummus an Indian makeover and came up with Spicy Indian Hummus. Such Treasures tucked Wardeh's Hummus into a sandwich with tabouleh. Armida Cooks serves up appetizers with Hummus & Cucumber Bites.

And lest you think it's just the foodies ... the Hopeless Optimist gushes about her love affair with hummus. And, get this, Peanut Tales says her cat Cloe likes hummus with sweet tea!

Two Days Later: And now the upscale Saveur has a cover story - cover story! - called How to Make Great Hummus. Is hummus the new apple pie?

Katherine!

Maybe... Cumin is my secret ingredient [in everything from egg - or tuna - salad to cole slaw, stir-fries, soups].

Cumin is sexy!

Thanks for the hat tip!

A topic for debate: Is cumin the chickpea of spices?

Evidence: Versatile, delicious in any quantity, crops up in many cuisines, but most predominantly Indian and Latin American, makes any dish feel a little fancier, etc.

I eat hummus year round and don't find it any more appealing in the spring. But then again, I have food issues and cannot be relied upon for normal responses to foods.

Thanks for an interesting topic.

What is it about April and hummus? My, we must have a massive group think going on. I've been thinking about hummus for weeks. Food bloggers psychically connect!

Hey Alanna! Thanks for the shout out.

I love my hummus with a big plate of roasted vegetables... Hmmm. Now I'm hungry!

I use it in lieu of mayo or other "stick-together" spreads in sandwiches and roll ups. And, yes, I tend to buy it in the warmer weather instead of winter. Will have to check out the recipes to make my own.

I bought chickpeas yesterday - even before I read this - to make a special hummus recipe I have been coveting which involves the preserved lemons I have been waiting 30 days for.

There is something telepathic going on with these chickpeas for sure. I just created a recipe for Marinated Mini-Pepper Salad with Chickpeas and Olives that I'll be posting next Tuesday for Sweetnicks ( http://sweetnicks.blogspot.com ) ARF event (that's anti-oxidant rich foods for you non foodies). Chickpeas are a "good" carb for the South Beach Diet so I can't wait to check out all the hummus recipes.
