Contributing Editor Elizabeth Thompson also blogs at The Imperfect Parent.

What do Hilary Duff, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, Sienna Miller and perhaps a busload of other female celebrities got...that I haven't got?

**hands on hips and sucks in gut**

Skinny jeans!

Yes, they're baaaaaack, and Rebecca Harrington of Harvard University thinks it's all a bit "tight in the crotch!":

Unfortunately, those dastardly celebrities with their liposuction and voluntary colonoscopies have radically altered our conception of the ugly skinny jean. On Sienna Miller or Lindsay Lohan, the skinny jean is eminently flattering and does not remind one of a particularly scarring episode of "Miami Vice."

The pants look so good on these plastic women that one starts to think wild and crazy thoughts. "Even if one does not have the thighs of a newly born foal, one can still wear skinny jeans!" you say to yourself. "I can wear them! I will go to Urban Outfitters today!"

So, why are they making a comback?

Chichi Mama, figures:

[Skinny jeans are making a comeback] because I just donated my last pair thinking "No reason to hold onto these, skinny jeans are never coming back into style. I didn't look good in skinny jeans before I had two kids, now that I have had two kids and the thighs and rear have, shall we say, "spread a little," I will look terrible in them. I'm running out to stock up on boot cuts right now. Because before long they'll be gone."

NO, -- not my beloved bootlegs -- say it isn't so!

Yes, says Lucky fashion director Hope Greenberg to USA Today.

"For so many years, boot-cut jeans were it. "It was the one thing that almost every woman went to. Boot cut is universally flattering, but the trend had to go somewhere else."

Okay, am I missing something here?

Perhaps, but if I find a pair of jeans that happens to be mentioned in the same sentence with the term "universally flattering," then damn skippy it will go...straight into my closet!

What do some women bloggers think?

Well, Megan (way over in New Zealand) is wondering:

"Oh, and does anyone else hate the fact that you have to be a skinny little thing to wear jeans these days as they are so low, that you ultimately end up with a little pouch at the top? Or is it just me? Seriously not everyone can like wearing jeans that show your plumbers crack when you lean over?"

Yes and no, Megan.

Personally, I believe that in order to look good, a person should feel good about wearing whatever makes her (and him) comfortable, though -- mind you, I'm not saying you should go all Bobby Trendy...without at least knowing the risks of being declared, Fugly! -- I wonder when fashionistas and style-gurus will get with the program and realize that there is a rather large population of women who have grown accustomed to their "less than perfect bodies" and perhaps are getting a little tired of...turning the other cheek.

Taking into account what Allure magazine's fashion director Michael Carl told USA Today:

"Women don't need to be rail-thin to pull off the look...paired with a stiletto or wedge heel, skinny jeans can add visual height, and a tunic can camouflage the hips and accentuate below the knee."

Okay, maybe I'm just not seeing it. Am I the only one having trouble "visualizing" this look -- above the knee...I DON'T THINK SO!?!

So, which cut would look most slimming?

Let's take a look at what two of my favorite stylists have to say with regard to What Not To Wear:

Slimming The Hips

Question -- Anne tends to long, shapeless dresses that she thinks "de-emphasize" her body. Stacy and Clinton want to a hip-slimming look for her. Which trouser cut would look the most slimming?

A) Tight-fitting trousers.
B) Wide-legged trousers.
C) Trousers that flare at the bottom.

Answer -- B) Wide-legged trousers create a great line that goes down the body and slims the hips.

Nope -- skinny jeans are not for everyone -- women come in all shapes and sizes and I don't believe that "camouflage" looks good on anyone...unless you're one of these Ladies, of course!

So, BlogHers -- wear 'em if you got 'em -- there's no shame in having your own sense of style. But, it's important to keep in mind that beauty is only skin-deep, doesn't necessarily have to be so gosh-darned-skin-tight and -- with the help of style guides like those featured here on BlogHer -- there's a
