Smart is sexy--and a BONUS academic fashion alert!

One of the things that made me fall in love with my husband was his insistence that "Smart is sexy!" Now there's a blog that celebrates this sentiment, albeit with a little bit of meat market chat thrown in: Sexy Science brings you the hottest bioanalytic chemists, chemical engineers, and other scientists of both sexes.

And let's remember that while brains are a turn-on, accessorizing doesn't hurt, either. Fortunately, for those of us who are time-, money-, and just plain fashion-challenged, Lynn Mally of Design Your Life is considering becoming a Stylist to the Studious by writing a book on the subject, and she's looking for assistants. Please, do a good deed and help those of us who, as I did yesterday, throw on whatever's clean, coming up with such sexy combinations as drawstring olive cargo pants, a bright white polo shirt, and dark brown sandals. Seriously. Help!

Leslie Madsen Brooks is the proprietor of The Clutter Museum, where she blogs about motherhood and the life academic.

I'm glad you discovered our blog, design-your-life.org ( http://www.design-your-life.org ). Some of us (like Lynn Mally and I) are academics, others are designers and design-observors. We are all looking for ways to integrate style and substance, at home and abroad.

Hey Leslie:

I always enjoy your "wraps"...(arghhh). The funniest thing ever said about my (prior)academic life wardrobe was a comment relayed to me from someone looking for moi as a participant in a large conference workshop: he was told, "Kathi's the one in there who LOOKS like an international student advisor!"

Now have fun for a moment thinking what stereotypes that might hold in your imaginations...! ;)

Cheers again,
