Well, I watched Lost's two-hour finale last night, but I did make sure to record the American Idol Finale even though I didn't do much more than see who got sent home the next morning. Watching the recording this morning, it didn't surprise me when I surfed over to technorati.com and I saw the image above for American Idol being a popular tag, but strangely, it did surprise me to see Lost ranked right below it. Did you miss both of them? Here are some good recaps on both of the programs.

Gossip or Truth has a great recap of American Idol, and Juz Another Gal gushes over Clay Aiken's suprise performance, while Sheila over at The Sheila Variations talks about my favorite part, Prince's performance. Like her, I have so many memories that are tied to Prince's music, so that was a very important part of the show last night.

On to Lost... The Couch Critic has one of the best recaps I've seen around, and Philothea Rose at Home has some really interesting theories as to what some of the things that happened will mean to the cast come Season Three. Dr. Heimlich also has a good breakdown of all of the plots left hanging, along with a commentary that I agree completely with. Season Two's Season Finale was much more interesting with all of the different questions needing to be answered, versus Season One's finale that seemed to only ask "What's in the hatch?".

Finally, I have to agree with Beth over at Beth's Contradictory Brain...

Ok which was better? Prince on AI or the Lost finale?? Both had me yelling at my tv! Thank God for dvrs!

If I didn't feel like I was being exploitive just watching that poor Clay wanna-be on screen, and if Clay didn't look so freakin' weird. Whose idea was that hair? He an Tamyra Gray definitely had the same stylist!

Clay Aiken's surprise appearance was the highlight of the show...

That is, until Prince turned up (who is a big, big fan of American Idol, apparently).

Spectacular show, they outdid themselves this time.

I came across the announcement of the winner of AI because I was flipping channels after watching PBS' American Masters' episode on Aretha Franklin. I've never watched either show. The hype around AI just turned me off, and I don't even know what Lost is about. Clueless, I know. It's funny, because I used to watch the old Ted Mack Amateur Hour and later Star Search consistently. But AI (and reality shows generally) doesn't strike me as a talent show. Rather, it's a TV show about a talent show in which the stars appear to be the judges and the contestants are chosen as much for their usefulness as character types as for their talent. A talented high school friend of my daughter's did make it to the LA audition about three years ago -- I would have watched, I'm sure, had he gone further. Still, I do regret not seeing Prince. Oh, well.

I only watch Survivor and Gilmore Girls (and the TLC shows when I'm traveling and lounging in hotel rooms lol).

I don't get the whole Idol thing - but then again, I didn't get Survivor either til about four seasons had passed.

You aren't alone. I don't watch Idol either but I take it one step further and don't watch Lost as well. I think when it first aired it conflicted with West Wing which I was addicted to. I missed the finale of Top Chef but am sure that there will be a Bravo Marathon this weekend.

I don't watch AI (am I the only person in the US who doesn't like this show?) so that was a no brainer.

But can I wait until September to see if Locke and Ecko are alive? And what IS Jack's plan??

I did Tivo the Top Chef finale...

I was actually shocked that I enjoyed the full 2-hour finale. I normally recap the competition nights, but don't bother with the results shows, but I'm going to have to watch again and write a recap.

From the highs (Prince, OMG!) to the lows (Toni Braxton-was she high?) it was good, fun TV :)

I am 5 episodes behind on Lost, to be honest, which I think says something about it not catching my imagination quite as much this season.
