Uber-netroots hero Joan Blades has helped launch Moms Rising, a new organization determined to support truly family-friendly work policies.
The group's latest effort speaks true and clear about the sad state of many workplaces for American mothers. To quote: "As one MomsRising member posted on our online forum, "...it is an agonizing situation to decide between being with a new baby and surviving financially. This type of dilemma does not remotely fit into the often-used phrase of 'family values.'"

Speaking of women and family values, I just came across this post from Taylor Marsh. She brings up the seemingly simple question:
"So why aren't women equally represented on the Sunday morning talk shows?
Got me.
Habit? Nobody cares? Nobody is paying attention? Nonsense. The public has to demand it, expect it and rely on hearing women's voices on Sunday morning. Given the importance of women in the family's faith, you'd think the panels would at least make an effort to invite some mothers on."
Ms. Marsh notes that while many producers on the news shows are female, guests just aren't.
I recall recently reading a survey in Ms. Magazine that stated women's names comprise only about 16% of names quoted in the media ('d wager Britney and Angelina own a fair chunk of that 16% anyway). If we're not as visible as men, our issues won't be either.
That said, I think BlogHer is a great start! In the coming age, Google links will be more powerful than traditional media hits anyway...
