All I know about menopause I learned from my mother: Hot flashes, irritability, weight gain. Since we're all heading there, I thought we should learn a little more. Let's find out what the women bloggers out there are offering to teach us.
Women's Health for the 2000's posts about the early signs of menopause.
And My Menopause Blog knows all about them.
If you're experiencing signs a wee bit too early, check out the post at A Hearty Life discussing menopause and heart health. She writes: "Women at higher risk of cardiovascular disease also entered menopause earlier." Yet another reason to get to know all about women and cardiovascular disease.
Speaking of disease, The Column, a blog of a homeopath and writer, argues against the traditional way of looking at menopause as "a disease to be treated" and offers up some alternative advice.
Belly Tales: The Diary of a Student Midwife seems just as frustrated with the "system" and provides us with a link to a book on menopause that's made her summer reading list.

There is also Power Surge
Power Surge is a great message board for menopause information. I plan to begin acupuncture this week for my menopause symptoms. After my surgery that induced my menopause I was really turned off to hormones (even bio-identical) and pharmaceuticals so I've been trying to deal with my symptoms through natural medicine. I take some Chinese herbs, and use one of these to cool my bed at night: ChiliPad I've also gone on an all organic whole food diet - and eliminated sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and refined flour. So far I think I have it managed, but I'm not 100% yet. Just wondering what else people are doing as I'm always looking for suggestions.
I will check out the Susan Love book...
... and I offer a recommendation of my own, particularly for us "baby" menopausers (women who enter menopause before 40, either surgically or due to other health issues): Screaming to be Heard.
I am continually amazed that menopause is STILL such a dismissed topic in our society. Knowledge is power. Kudos to the women who are blogging and educating others. Thanks for the finds, mipmup!
