A new feminist blogger, Modern Bluestocking of Grandma was a suffragette, comments on The Daily Mail coverage of rape sentencing in the UK. In her inaugural post she explains:
"I was planning on just making this a filler post, but I caught sight of a Daily Mail headline (oh, the shame) when I was buying fishfingers, so I was inspired to write. Apparently the Sentencing Guidelines Council in the UK have finally cottoned on to the fact that rape can be traumatizing to women, even if they know their attackers. And this was literally headline news."

The Fifth Edition of the Radical Women of Color Carnival is up at Fabulosa Mujer. The theme of the issue is grassroots activism - lots of good links there so swing by. This carnival organizers have decided with each issue to promote a different organization in-line with their goals. The featured organization of this issue is Action for Southern Africa.
And finally, a post from Amy's Brain Today at Feminist Reprise on the politics of femininity. Even if you love makeup and other feminine props, don't shy away from her piece - it will expand your feminist horizons.
Here are some provocative quotes from her essay:
"Participating in beauty rituals, conforming, buys you privilege."
"Femininity is not just about getting attention from men—it is about survival."
"The original purpose of femininity in the 50s was to get women to buy things."
"But it's a fact that women who've decided not to worry about pleasing men can see things about patriarchy the rest of you can't afford to acknowledge."
Intrigued? Read "My Last Rant on Femininity (for now)" - it's a well-articulated position piece.
