Hot Summer Trends: Wearing Less Is More!

It's just...too...damned...HOT...as the nation experiences it's first heat wave since Memorial Day.

If you're like me - and have already had your fill of sweltering heat and boob sweat - then, keeping your cool in steamy weather simply means turning on the garden hose and running around wearing little more than your underwear!

That's fine - if you're like, two - and if only it were that simple, yeah?

Short of staying indoors and praying that your electricity bill doesn't kill you before the air-conditioner finally kicks it, how does one turn a long-hot-summer day into something fun and exciting - without getting arrested or getting caught by the Fashion Police?

Accessorize, of course!

Here are some really cool fashion tips and the blogs that go s'well...with 'em!

The Style Guru says to stay away from "tights" - OMG, I'm sweating just thinking about wearing anything even remotely associated with the word! - that looser fitting clothes and investing in a few linen pieces is the way to go, and posts about one of my favorite hot new fashion trends:

Keep your hair under control with the super-sized head band or headwrap. You may use it to simply pull your hair back or as a fashionable accent with a ponytail or other hair do.

The Diva Shop - blogger of all things di-lightful - posts the newest style of headband and introduced me to Swapsets:

Swapsets.com is dedicated to bringing you the latest in fashion-friendly technology. It all started with the Steffi Thomas line of headsets and headphones. They are fun, versatile and most of all stylish. This line of wearable technology made us realize that there is a void in well-designed smart technology for women. We intend to seek out the latest trends and most innovative ideas blending fashion and technology and offer them to you all in one place. In the meantime, we know you will love these products.

Or, make your own headband using one of blogger Heather's gorgeous designs.

At work, home or play...these bloggers know how to look really cool - just check out this Cool Mom Pick that's a perfect fit for...ahem...summertime fingers:

Since going entirely ringless is more practical but makes me feel naked, I think the Kimono Rings from the Carrot Box are the perfect compromise. Each acrylic ring encases a genuine piece of coloful, hand-dyed Japanese kimono fabric (i.e. it's impervious to kiddie craft supplies). Plus they're stylish enough that just one makes a statement. Hooray for mom-friendly accessorizing!

At only $16 a pop, grab a couple. Particularly if you're like me and your fingers carry a little extra something in the summer months.

Hey, even sausage fingers deserve a little love.

Speaking of love, don't forget about your lips!

Fashion Tribes posted thistip:

Looking your summer-best and nailing the vibrant lips from makeup artist Pat McGrath:

Coat the lips with MAX Factor MAXwear Lipcolor & Gloss Duo in Midori Glam or Split Personality.

[available at MaxFactor.com]

Apply the lowlight lipcolor and finish with the highlighting gloss for a dramatic lip look.

Yep and - speaking as a mother of three girls - it's all about the drama!

And Diva Village posts an amusing array of articles on a trend wave that perhaps a large portion of the free world has already seen in either a theater or the shopping mall (or both):

With the opening of “Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest on July 7th (starring Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, and Johnny Depp), pirate fashions seem to be popping up everywhere.

Shop Intuition offers an anchor tee that is a favorite for Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

Even Target hopped on “ship and now offers a tank which reads “A Pirate’s Life For Me, and another that features a collage of skulls and roses.

Yes, even I have succumbed to the heat and - hiding out in the mall with my four kids on a rather sticky day, recently - allowed my ten-year-old to gather pirate accessories (for an upcoming birthday sleepover for one of bff's) at one of my tweens' favorite store of the month:

Rhinestone Skull Necklace

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but this fall, skulls are a close second!

Bring the two together in this bling bling Rhinestone Skull necklace - $7.50

[Available at Claire's]

I know - it's a skull for goodness sake - but, at least it's not black!

Sometimes it's easy to go overboard - I did draw the line on the Johnny Depp Pillowcase - and

But, then again, you'd look good wearing a newspaper cover...for goodness sake.

...for including cool mom picks in this awesome fashion round up. I've learned a few things here myself. I mean, no tights? In summer? What will I wear under my legwarmers?

JennaHatfield 10 pts

I mean it. I don't wear shorts. Okay, at home in our own yard, I wear shorts. But in public? NEVER!

But today. I did. Why? I'm melting... MELTING. It's awful.

Layering tanks are popular right now. You know what's great about that? I'll use one brand to illustrate. Old Navy's layering tanks are.... LONG. You know what that means? It's a more slimming look for me. WOO! I love tanks. And so I layered two with shorts today. And went out in public. Now it was only to the hospital to visit Gramps but still. SHORTS!

Also, the headwrap thing is my bag:

I started doing this last summer with random scarves. I now do it with random strips of material I have left over from projects. And people are all, "Where did you buy that?!" Uhm, the craft store?

;) Smoooth. Keeps my wispy hairs out of my eyes.
