Costa Rica Travel Advice: Updated

The #1 question that I get from readers is looking for advice about traveling to Costa Rica. You all know that we absolutely love it, and having been traveling there for more than 15 years. It really is the perfect place to go with or without kids, and after trying out other places we always seem to find our way back there ....more

Well, we've officially reached the point in our trip where we all love/ hate each other in equal measure. It's probably no coincidence that today also marks the halfway point in our little adventure. I'm pretty sure that the point of our annual Swiss Family Robinson Anderson vacation is to get as much family time in as we can, but what we always seem to forget is that we as a family we really can get on each others nerves.. ....more

Red + White + Blue

I'm not one for thematic dressing, and rarely do so for any holiday. While you won't be seeing me in a pair of american flag hot pants on the 4th (you're welcome) I have to admit that when it comes to Summer dressing, there is nothing I love more than a crisp white button down or tee, paired with broken in denim jeans/ shorts, topped off with the perfect red lip or toenail. It's my nod to red white and blue, and luckily it can be worn long after the last firework display of the season ....more

My Sister's Wedding: The Invitations

I can't believe it, but this is my last post on my sister's wedding before the big day. It seemed like only yesterday I wrote about our inspiration for the affair, and now here we are over a year later with everything decided, down to the the littlest detail. It feels so good to know that we don't have to really think about anything wedding related, but I can already tell that I'm going to miss obsessing over all the pieces that are going into the big event.. ....more

A Hint of Mint

Ever since I painted our upstairs bedroom mint, I just can't get the color out of my head. I recently worked on a mint and fuchsia room for a little girl and I'm telling you, I think mint has become my go-to color for any space that calls for a little fun. Right now I'm dying to do a beach house, pairing mint with crisp whites and navy accents ....more

A Week In New York

I can't believe this is actually happening, but somehow I have managed to get an entire week, ALONE, in New York City. Alone as in NO kids. Alone as in NO husband ....more

LOVE WINS!!!!!

What a day! Ever since I heard about the ruling on same-sex marriage I have been crying happy tears of joy and doing a dance very similar to the queen herself, the notorious RBG. Knowing that my kids are going to grow up in a world where they can marry whomever they choose, (when they are much, much, much older) free from discrimination and hate truly means everything to me ....more

My Sisters Wedding: The Bridesmaid Dresses

I have a secret. The reason that I volunteered to take the reigns in planning my sister's wedding is because I wanted to be the one to pick out the bridesmaid dresses.Okay, I'm kind of kidding, of course this isn't the only reason I signed up but I'm not kidding about picking out the dresses. In fact, this was something I was very serious about. It's not so much that I cared about what exact dress I'd be wearing, but given that the wedding party consists of myself and my two other sisters, who are 12-15 years younger than me, I knew I wanted the majority say in the decision. In short, I didn't want to look old. Also, (and more importantly) the bride and I have very similar taste and the ease of this wedding has been in large part because if I know that if I like something, she is sure to like it.. ....more

Favorite Wood Consoles: A Roundup

After the sofa, the first piece of furniture that I advise clients to invest in is the sideboard/ console table. The thing about the console is that it pulls double duty as being incredibly functional (I store stem-wear and serving dishes in one side and board games in the other) but it also really anchors a room giving a home to art (or the TV) and styling accessories....more

We made it! I know I shouldn't always be so surprised, but with two kids, a thousand bags and skateboards/ surfboards/ scooters it's always such a relief to walk in the door and know that we actually survived the journey. Before we left there was some chatter about another possible baby, but all it takes is one long travel day to remind us how lucky we are that we've reached the point of iPad + push pop equaling all day sedation ....more
