Framed Cooks

I am a mother, a wife, a redhead, a bookworm, an avid cook and a compulsive photographer.  My website, Framed Cooks, site actually started out as a photography project. The project was to shoot still life — something different every day for 2 weeks. I hate photographing still life. I like photographing dogs and babies and teenagers and other things that won’t sit still. I had no idea what on earth I would be able to think of to photograph still-life-wise that could be different every day. And then it dawned on me. Dinner.  My plans was to take pictures of our suppers for 14 days, and I thought it might be fun to blog about it at the same time.  That was almost four years ago, and I'm still cooking, still taking pictures, and still writing about our suppers!

Molasses Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches

Grilled Cheese Asparagus Salad

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Grilled Cheese Asparagus Salad --- I realized WAY late in the game that April is National Grilled Cheese Month, which is a pretty pathetic state of affairs for a food blogger. Especially one (like me) who lives for a good grilled cheese sandwich. In a last minute effort to catch up, I've included some of my all-time favorite grilled cheeses in the related posts at the bottom of this one, but given that April is also 3 short months away from National Bikini Month, I am combining this grilled cheese with a delectable asparagus and apple salad to make it a fair fight between grilled cheese and the possibility of me getting into a bikini in 3 months ....more

Sweet and Sour Shrimp in Pineapple Boats

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Sweet and Sour Shrimp in Pineapple Boats --- You gotta wonder what inspired the first guy to eat a pineapple what prompted him to try the pineapple in the first place. Because the outside of a pineapple is prickly and forbidding pretty much all over. But once you cut into a nice ripe pineapple and get that first whiff of sweet, tender pineapple deliciousness...I would like to find that guy and thank him ....more

Shortcut Fried Chicken Salad

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Shortcut Fried Chicken Salad --- Things I am not shy about include the following: That I am totally willing to put bacon into pretty much anything, including all forms of dessert. Lime and Ginger Steak

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Lime and Ginger Steak --- In my last post I went on and on and on about how it was getting ti be springtime and how that meant fresh herbs were not far behind and how much I adore the taste of fresh herbs in my recipes and so on and so on. Tortellini with Dill

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Tortellini with Dill --- So now that spring is getting spring-like, I'm facing my usual unstoppable need to cook with all kinds of fresh herbs. I'm a good month away from being in the safe zone of planting my own, so I am throwing all fiscal caution to the wind and paying the price for getting them at the supermarket, so I can make things like tortellini with fresh dill and peas. Because, SPRING! ...more

Spring Vegetable and Ricotta Tartines

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Spring Vegetable and Ricotta Tartines --- It is April 2nd, and we are supposed to be surrounded by lambs and crocuses at this point, and all I will say is that there is still snow on my driveway. Stubborn, icy, not going anywhere soon piles of snow. And so I have decided to fight back with tartines ....more

Cheddar Cauliflower Beer Soup

---- If this post is not displaying properly, view it in your browser here: Cheddar Cauliflower Beer Soup --- Spring is sloooooowly making its way here, and I'm scooping up those first tender green spring veggies wherever I can find them, but in the meantime I have to give a shout-out to one of the hardy vegetables that I have relied upon All Winter Long, and that is my friend cauliflower. I've whipped it, I've tossed it with pasta, I've roasted it and I've covered it in blue cheese. I love it every which way, and as we ease ourselves slowly out of the melting snowbanks, I'm still warming us up on these not-quite-spring-like evenings with batches of cauliflower soup - in this case, made with beer and cheese and sprinkled with crispy breadcrumbs ....more
