Boys are allowed, but there aren't many here to be sure.

Dave from Blogography expresses his regret:

A while back I wrote an entry about how I regretted that I would not be attending the BlogHer event this weekend, and how I felt left out because I thought it was for the ladies but found out that other guys were going to be there as well. I was mostly bummed not because I would be missing out on a session for MommyBloggers... but because all kinds of people were attending that I'd love to meet and hang out with.

Aw.  That was all warm and toasty.  But fear not!

Much to my surprise, one lady commenter (who found me via Technorati) was very happy that I would not be attending, and was seriously pissed off that ANY men were daring to show up. Apparently, BlogHer is a "serious forum" and a "safe space" for women bloggers to discuss the issues that face them, and men showing up would just ruin
everything...

...the more I thought about it, the more pissed off I got. How in the
heck would me showing up to BlogHer suddenly cause everything to be ruined? No longer safe? No longer serious? It was so ridiculous as to
be absurd, and so I decided to send my "virtual self" to BlogHer and show that I am all about supporting the ladies, and would absolutely
have something to contribute...

Check out Dave's virtual BlogHer attendence, complete with artwork.

Neil from Citizen of the Month has also blogged his BlogHer envy.

Meanwhile, Karl from Secondhand Tryptophan is here, representing for the boys, and liveblogging.

Contributing editor Liz Rizzo also blogs at Everyday Goddess and the SexySmart Blog.

Yes, Tish, I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to really connect!

The "what can men do to help women bloggers" question didn't really tweak me though, and I thought the panel had good answers - which leads me to think it was still a valid question.

However, the "isn't home improvement intimidating" moment from, I think, the lunch keynote on Sunday was my personal "shades of condensation" moment. :)

Then again, I've never actually attempting to rewire anything, so maybe it would be, who knows!

Hi Liz!

Nice seeing you again--although it was across the room and neither of us could break away long enough to chat (I think BlogHer needs a whole free socializing day next year...)

I was chatting with my friend Kirk ( http://www.recoveryvehicle.us/blog/ ) after the closing panel, and he asked, "So, what did you think of the question that guy asked at the end, about what men can do to help women bloggers?"

"Well," I said--kind of hedging--"it was kind of..."

"Condescending?" he offered...

Interesting that a big white guy found the "what can men do to help women bloggers?" question as condescending as I did! I wasn't surprised to hear that question--kind of goes along with that guy-thing about always wanting to find answers to "help" women--but I did find it rather funny that the guy seemed to be most interested in networking with well-known women bloggers....hmmm....interesting...

As for helping women bloggers--I think we help ourselves pretty well, thankyouverymuch :-)

Hope we can run into each other again--sooner rather than later...

Particularly any that compliment me so nicely...

"How dare I show up with my testes." Too funny.

I certainly respect all opinions on the matter (If you can't say you don't want men around at a female blogging conference, when can you say it? On second thought, don't answer that.), but I'm a co-ed girl. If someone's interested in the conversation, I say come on over and talk it up.

Personally I am not bothered at all by the idea of men being here. I just wish I had realized it sooner so I could have invited my brother.

Well, open foot, insert mouth. I just met Laid off Dad and I'm absolutely thrilled he's here. Maybe I'm more comfortable with a "Daddy Blogger"? Someone I know who is familiar with my content and won't be embarrassed at any vagina discussion.

Men certainly aren't overwhelming the event.

There are those who participate here (hello, Denise) who would probably expect to see my agreement with you, Very Mom... but in this case, given how blogher vets members, and given they have been invited and welcomed by those who organise the event, have to believe the men in attendance bring something worthwile to the endeavour.

I'm not there, this is complete speculation, but would doubt they are overwhelming the event. If they were, I'd expect some tweaking in the future.

I'm not pissed, and I don't think I've been handing out dirty looks, but the presence of men at BlogHer makes me a little uncomfortable. There are gyms just for women, I can't imagine how outraged my mother would be if she showed up at Curves and there were men on the machines next to her.

Crazy, but I've hardly had any death threats at all for my lack of breasts. A few dirty looks, though, for sure. How dare I show up with my testes.

I'm really enjoying talking to you this weekend. You're even gorgeouser and funnerer than you are online. Clearly you've sold your soul to satan.
