New blogger has question, please

I'm one of the few attending BlogHer that does not blogyet. I'm ready to start but have a few questions - any suggestions appreciated!

1. Should I use typepad like everyone else, or use the new Vox service, also from Six Apart? Eventually, I want to be able to sell advertising on my blog.

2. A name! I can't come up with a good name. Once I sign up with a blog hosting service, will I ever be able to change the usernames & URL when i come up with a better name??

Not everyone uses typepad!

Not everyone uses typepad! Wordpress (both hosted by wordpress.com or wordpress.org that you install at your own domain is another great choice and open source to boot.

Once you sign up the only way to change the url is to start over again. Usernames and blog names can be changed anytime.

I was going to say the same thing. In addition, Wordpress is free, open-source, and has a great support and development community. It would be my recommendation.

Think about the same carefully (especially if you use it in the URL). Make sure it is easy to remember and that it fits your vision.

I second thinking carefully about the name you choose. It does help if you can stick with it, because that's how people will recognize you. It's the same reason brands are careful when they change the look of the packaging... a change in appearance to most consumers means a change in product, even if that is not the case. Hence the use of "new look... same great taste" etc.

I chose my name sort of as a joke. it sounds like a porn star's name and is easy to remember. My blog is somewhat funny but has nothing to do with sex or porn or anything (well maybe sometimes but not usually!)So it doesn't really fit the content but my blog is always evolving and when I started I didn't know where i would go with it.

Ok that last paragraph rambles. forgive me.

Can I sell advertising on Vox or Typepad still?
I'm not techie enough to host my own domain which is why I figured I shouldn't use Wordpress.

Yes, I will choose a URL carefully . . . still need some inspiration for names. Seattlite, as you can see, is not really descriptive or unique.

Suggest for new blogger

You can try wordpress.com and Blogger.com, they both serve very well in functionality and ready make designs. They can even let your change the name of your blog, you can modify it anytime like, of course, if there are no other people using the same name.
