Introducing Research & Academia at BlogHer

BlogHer Original Post

Greetings from your contributing editor for Research and Academia, and welcome to the renovated BlogHer!

I'm so thrilled to be part (however tiny that part may be) of the relaunch of the site. I'll be posting here several times a week, sharing what I've found in the academic blogosphere.

"Research and Academia" is a very large and pretty amorphous category. My focus will be on higher education and the research that proceeds from it, since that's my area of expertise, but I'll be on the lookout for blogs by others working in educational and research-related fields. I'm updating the Research and Academia blogroll with women's blogs that I enjoy reading, but if you'd like to recommend some others, please don't hesitate to contact me.

About me: I've been in school forever; I'm now in something like the 24th grade. My time as a student is coming to an end, however, as I am, if things go as planned, on track to finish my dissertation and earn a Ph.D. in the interdisciplinary humanities, with an emphasis in feminist theory, in June. I've taught writing, literature, and American studies, and as a teaching assistant dabbled in technoculture studies and biotechnology.

My own work--and this is what brings me to BlogHer--involves the ways in which women create informal networks to disseminate information and exchange knowledge. I'm especially interested in the ways professionals in a field interact with laywomen to integrate complex developments, particularly those in science and technology, into their everyday lives in productive ways.

I blog about motherhood and the life academic at The Clutter Museum. Please stop by to say hi.
