How's everyone's weekend? Here's a mini update for all you Caribbean blog readers out there. It humbles and amazes me how many great bloggers are writing from or about the Caribbean.

For example:

JamaicanQueen from Lowered Expectations discusses a recently acquired insight:

I have to stop thinking about how I want things to work out when it will never be that way. I would like for everything to be rosy in my life but it is just not gonna happen. I would like for things to go smoothly but it doesn't work that way. I have held on the things and people in my life that have done nothing more than hurt my feelings continuously and damn it, it is my fault. I allow these people to stay and affect me

JamaicanQueen, those are some wise, wise words. That's surely advice for all of us.

Please let us know how Jamaica will fare with that nasty Ernesto forecasted to hit your lovely island.

Speaking of wise words, here is what Elspeth of Now is Wow wrote recently:

Yesterday I was driving and thinking: life is made up of have-to-do's and want-to-do's. In my case (apart from the regular have-to-do's which we all 'have to do' at some point in order to exist in the 'civilized world' - paying bills, etc.) most have-to-do's are things that I do to get money to pay the bills, etc. in the first place. Every now and then I say to myself "Life is too long to be doing things I don't really want to do." Lately I have been thinking about this a lot.

There are a lot of have-to-do's in life indeed. Sometimes I rebel and think: "No, damnit, I'm going to do what I want just for one day". It's very liberating.

Gela from 'Gela N The City wrote about a harrowing experience with the police force:

It is almost 3am but since I'm too worried to sleep I might as well blog. The most worrying thing about living in Jamaica right now is the crime situation. The events of tonight (or rather this morning) speak directly to that.

Sometimes I wonder what this world is coming to, but then reading all the thoughts of these great, wonderful, smart women make me think that life can be good.

Have a good weekend everybody!

LDW, your comments took my breath away. I am so glad that you are given a bigger glimpse of the Caribbean through these blogs.

Once again, thank you.

I also blog at: Lost in Smallness ( http://www.arubagirl.typepad.com ) and at The pan Collective ( http://www.thepancollective.typepad.com ).

Thanks for these interesting insights into the worlds of some Caribbean women. From what little I have seen -- Barbados, Guyana, Belize -- I know that the Caribbean is both a magical and complex place. But I only had limited interaction with the women I met there. I wished for more, but didn't want to push too hard. So, please, keep these glimpses coming, and I will check out the blogs myself.
