Ponderings

Hmmm... the pressure is on now. What exactly do I write? I never was much of a writer. In fact I hate it (notice the complete disregard of the existance of commas). But I like the idea of a place where I can tell random people random things. Like....

2 nights ago I got so drunk that I called a guy I know (barely) and told him about my first time. I was traumatized the next day and have completely sworn of liqour for a very long time.

 OR

I have an honest to god fear of going through the car wash. Ive seen too many scary movies.

Thank A Democrat

This upcoming election is extremely important to me.  It should be important to all of us.  To that end, I have done a little research.  Okay, I did a LOT of research, and I’m asking you to take a few minutes to read what I’ve come up with, especially if you are wavering as to whom you will vote for in November, or know someone who is.  In that case, please forward this to them.  You might think it a bit lengt

Sarah Palin: How Many Women is She?

Sarah Palin: How Many Women is She?

Reformer? Maverick? Defender of motherhood? Independent-minded woman? Former beauty queen? Serious politico? Moose hunter?

As soon as John McCain announced that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would be his running mate, the liberal vs. conservative online discussion was off to the races! Progressive bloggers are shocked at Palin's positions on reproductive choice, gun control and religion in schools, just to name a few.

Uniforms...An Ongoing Debate

My sweet niece Elizabeth has just entered high school. I inquired on how she liked it and if she missed her elementary school. Well, she is definitely an enthusiastic freshmen but her reply about missing the elementary was and emphatic, "No, I hate SJS, now." Which I thought was so sad... She had been a student there since kindergarten and her younger sisters go there, as well. Not to mention her mom, me, and her aunt to name a few.

My Bitter experience with www.365jobs4u.com

There are a large number of companies mushrooming which offer "Form Filling", "Data Entry", "Home Typist" and "Content Writers"  jobs and offer lucrative incomes from just a few hours part time work at home. Most of them are frauds and take the general public for a ride. Their sole aim is to collect an initial investment which is kept large enough to fill their coffers, while the payout is negligible or nil.

Cooking with Fresh Herbs: Sage

Cooking with Fresh Herbs: Sage

Since May I've been writing a series of posts on BlogHer about Cooking with Fresh Herbs. Now it's nearly fall, and I'm finishing up the series with sage today and a final post about thyme coming on Sunday. Both these are herbs I love to cook with, and I think both are underused in many American kitchens. If you have sage or thyme in your herb garden, but not too many ideas about how to use them, I hope you'll enjoy the finale.

The RNC Audience

The RNC Audience

Ok, I am sitting here watching the convention and I have had 1 observation (among others) that stood out. Is it me or is the audience as enthused or vibrant as the audience at the DNC? Again, just an observation, but wow. Everything that has been said last night and tonight seems so stuffy, fake and forced. But I suppose some people like that.

Scenes from the Gynecologist's Office

Scenes from the Gynecologist's Office

So this week I had the joy of my annual trip to my OB/GYN. Well, I use the term "annual" loosely, because since I got an IUD (and so I'm not running out of birth control pills), it's really difficult to remember when I'm supposed to go, much less motivate myself to get there. And my doctor changed medical groups, which meant I had to change medical groups to see him, which my insurance took a month to do. But. Annual-ish gynecological exam: Done.

While the Talk Goes On: Soldier Suicide Rate Upward Bound

According to a report by the AP today:  "Soldier suicides this year could surpass the record rate of last year, Army officials said Thursday, urging military leaders at all levels to redouble prevention efforts for a force strained by two wars."

Single Parent Families...NOT Broken!

Single Parent Families...NOT Broken!

Years ago I wrote an article that was partly informational and partly rant. It has been published in variety of venues. I think it’s appeal is because it is somewhat counter cultural. I bravely and boldly broadcasted my frustration with society’s misperceptions about single mother households. Many individuals deem such families as somehow “broken” or destined for failure. Particularly during this political season we’re hearing many tout single parent households as though they are irreparably disadvantaged.
