I've been surfing the net for years, and I've hardly seen a huge community site be more poorly laid out. I love what you guys are trying to do here - it's got potential to be a wonderful community and resource, but the counter-intuitive navigation is frustrating at best, and completely unncessary.
I highly suggest hiring a good web developer to revamp the entire site. After I signed up, it took me ten minutes to find the info on how to use the site, never mind use the site. The MyBlogHer interface is poorly laid out to the point where one needs an instruction manual to use it, the forum interface is poorly designed too, chopping topic headings into three line bits, and this is suprising mainly because there is such a plethora of good forums out there. It's not like we're reinventing the wheel here.
The blog directory is boring with not even a tiny pic or description of each site. I would profile a number of sites each day or week along the top, and have a tiny description window for each one. In short, I'd redesign the whole site.
All in all - great, fantastic, necessary idea, but not the greatest execution.
