In the grand sweep of things that I hoped would never become my business, Sarah Palin’s reproductive activity is prominent.
The problem is, being lied to really sets me off, and I knew from first hearing that she was lying about the birth of “Trig Palin”. It didn’t happen the way she told it.
And that BOTHERED me. It bothered me so much more than being lied to about bridges to nowhere, or other stuff, because it was far more sacred to me. Politicians lie, I’m used to that. Half the time they hardly notice they’re lying, it’s so routine. But for a woman to lie about having a baby touched me in a way that was deeply personal, so I went looking for someone to discuss it with.
That’s how I wound up reading the blog at http://www.palindeception.com/blog/ . it’s authored by a woman who, like myself, just couldn’t get over the enormity of Sarah Palin’s lies about that birth. A woman who was graveled and astonished that such an obvious WHOPPER of a story was given a pass. As she so eloquently said:
Twenty two years ago I gave birth at home to a son. If someone walked through my door a minute from now, within four hours I could provide substantial and irrefutable proof that I gave birth to him, proof outside my immediate family. I would have the testimony of a credible and experienced midwife whom I am still in touch with. I would have the eye witness testimony of an additional 3-4 women who were physically in the room when I gave birth. All of these women would be delighted to tell anyone who asked that the idea that I had not given birth was ridiculous. I would have the testimony of many people who saw me hugely pregnant before the birth, and scores of people who saw me breastfeed him at one point or another, many of which I could still get in touch with. I have birth photographs. I could provide all of this within hours. And this is a home birth - twenty two years ago. [1]
There’s a great deal of research, a collection of original source material, some measured observations, and yes, the occasional far-fetched theory in the blog and its comments. I heartily recommend it, it’s absorbing reading. Most recently the discussion is up based on some information that is, was, or isn’t on the MySpace pages of Wasilla teens. I’m told Sarah Palin dismisses this blog (and other blogs like it) as “conspiracy bloggers in their pajamas”. Well, I can’t deny, there are times I look at the net in something other than a business suit. But if you’re looking for relaxing bedtime reading, this isn’t it. It’s a page-turner that’s hard to set aside. Happy reading. J
