National Blog Posting Month is the epicenter of daily blogging! People who want to set the habit of blogging by doing it every day for a month, including weekends, can band together for moral support, inspiration, and the camaraderie that only marathon blogging can provide.

Big changes are underway with NaBloPoMo, just in time for November, the original month for the project. We'll move permanently from the Ning site to BlogHer, therefore increasing the number of eyes that fall on your posts. We'll be doling out advice on how to write and blog better (such as how to keep going when you hit that wall mid-month or project and feel like you can't write another post or page). We'll have fabulous guest prompts from some of your favourite writers. And, of course, there will be prizes, prizes, and more prizes. Intrigued? Read more so you don't miss out when November rolls around. (Editor's note: Signs ups ended on November 5 at 11pm ET.)

October will be the last month that NaBloPoMo appears on the original Ning site. We've already been running NaBloPoMo posts on BlogHer for the past few months, but now all of YOUR posts will upload to BlogHer too. We have a NaBloPoMo landing page on the site, and all of the daily posts you traditionally upload to NaBloPoMo will run there along with the blogroll, the monthly badges, and the daily prompts. Some of your posts will also be chosen to appear additionally on the front page of the Blogging & Social Media section and receive some additional social media love.

Sound good? Your NaBloPoMo account on Ning will not move over to BlogHer. If you'd like to continue with NaBloPoMo (and yes, men are always welcome on BlogHer):

  • Create a BlogHer profile (if you don’t already have one). Learn everything about using BlogHer!
  • Set your reminders so you don’t forget to blog every day in November. Qualifying participants will be eligible for prizes every single day in November – we have BlogHer conference passes, BlogHer surprises and tons of BlogHer Book Club books from Penguin Publishing and others.
  • Sign up for the new NaBloPoMo newsletter on BlogHer so you don’t miss an update. The final NaBloPoMo newsletter in the old format will go out the last week in October. If you want to continue to receive NaBloPoMo newsletters, you must sign up on BlogHer.com!

You have questions, and we hopefully have answers. Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below, and I'll dive into passing along more information about the new (and fantastic!) NaBloPoMo. It's going to help you write better.

Melissa writes Stirrup Queens and Lost and Found. Her novel about blogging is Life from Scratch.

Just wondering if there was a badge for completing NaBloPoMo??

ReedFamily55 5 pts

Bummer I have been doing NaBloPoMo and didn't realize I was supposed to offically sign up somewhere. Of course I find out once it's too late to sign up :(

Dorid 5 pts

hmmm... why is it I can never access the form to sign up?

Denise 393 pts moderator

Dorid Sign ups ended on November 5 at 11pm.

I'm excited to participate! I've been blogging daily for a few months now (goal is 365 days :)) so this fits perfectly. A couple questions: do we have to use the prompt or can we post what we would regularly write? And I've had some connection problems so sometimes I write/email the post the one day but can't actually post it until the next day; would that disqualify me?

Melissa Ford 42 pts

Kamillab

You don't have to use the prompts - they're just there if you're struggling with what to write.

NaBloPoMo is done on an honour system. The only way not posting every day would affect you is when it comes to the prizes, where we do check to see a post a day on the site.

Posting part of the final newsletter that went out on the Ning site here in case there are other people who need to access this information. It tells you how to sign up for the new newsletter, get added to the blogroll, etc:

This is it -- the final NaBloPoMo newsletter from this site. If you haven't already done so, please sign up for the new newsletter here (http://www.blogher.com/sign-bloghers-email-newslet... and join us at the new site. You will not be able to access this Ning site anymore as of November 1st when NaBloPoMo begins. And this is the final mailing you will receive from the old NaBloPoMo site. Apologies to all the new people who signed up in the last few days for NaBloPoMo -- this is actually the old site and NaBloPoMo has moved.

But the fun isn't ending -- it's just beginning. NaBloPoMo is settling into its new space on BlogHer and will be kicking off next Tuesday. And yes, yes, 1000 times YES, guys are welcome to blog on BlogHer -- not only on NaBloPoMo, but anywhere on the site. And we hope you do continue since this is still the blog project you know and love; just in a different space.

November is the only month that doesn't have a separate theme. Instead, the theme for November is blogging for blogging's sake. As we always do in November, there will be prizes for participants who are writing daily. We have prompts lined up from writers and bloggers. And we'll be posting writing advice to cheer you on (sort of like water tables at a marathon) throughout the month. If you signed up on the NaBloPoMo site using the old blogroll sign-up form, you are NOT signed up for NaBloPoMo. Due to the inclusion of prizes and the lack of categories in November's NaBloPoMo, there is a one-time place to sign up that opened on Friday morning. You can sign up for the current November NaBloPoMo right here: NaBloPoMo Sign-up (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en...

You can find the November blogroll here (http://www.blogher.com/nablopomo-november-2011-blo... as well as the current badge (http://www.blogher.com/nablopomo-november-2011-bad... For more information about NaBloPoMo, read the current post on the new site.

Melissa Ford Thank you. Just to let you know, the sign-up link (google docs) link works, but the others don't.

Mid 30s Life 5 pts

Sorry, but I'm easily confused... I signed up for NaBloPoMo on another site (the Ning site?) just a few hours ago. Is that all I need to do to receive the newsletter? I can't find where on the Blogher site to sign up for it. Thanks for this.

I only heard of NaBloPoMo tonight, think it's a great idea.

I posted part of the final newsletter above so everyone can have access to those links.

I've had a blog for over a year and I post every week. I was thinking of starting a new blog and I have lots of things to write about. So my question is: do you suggest I use my current blog, or start my new blog for November's NaBloPoMo? Alo - is there a word count requirement?

Melissa Ford 42 pts

Afox

No word count requirement, and you can use any blog you wish -- new or old.

vaxhacker 7 pts

I assume that the same rule is still in effect from previous years regarding friends-only blogs, right? I'll write public entries where I can, but a bunch of them will likely be locked, so it'll look like I didn't write every day. If needed for verification, of course I'll let you in to check, just ask :)

Melissa Ford 42 pts

vaxhacker

Yes -- as long as you can provide verification, password protected blogs count.

klingtocash 14 pts

Ok I'm going to try it. I'm trying to get more consistent with my blog. I go through spurts where I write a lot and then won't write for months. I need to find my flow. Hopefully this will do it. It's like Nanowrimo for bloggers!

natanyap 5 pts

Life has been very challenging this fall and I've fallen out of blogging and I miss it. i realized this morning how much I miss it. I'm going to think on this over the weekend but maybe this is just what I need to get my blogging back in gear.

Kathy Benson 15 pts

I have been wanting to try NaBloPoMo for awhile... Maybe I should just bite the bullet and go for it?! Silly question, if I am going be away from my computer for one or more days, do you suggest writing and scheduling posts ahead of time?

Melissa Ford 42 pts

Kathy Benson

Absolutely -- you can schedule a post or two ahead of time if you need to in order to still live your life and participate in the project :-)

Kathy Benson 15 pts

Melissa Ford Hmm... Maybe?! I have a few more days to mull it over and decide. But I am very intrigued! :)

AberrantCrochet 5 pts

The FAQ can be read here: http://nablopomo.blogher.com/faq and #12 deals with this one. Kathy Benson

I absolutely cannot wait for November and Nablopomo here on BlogHer. I have signed up for the monthly challenge a couple of times during the past six months and gave it my best but didn't manage daily posting on a single blog...always crashed and burned about week 4, but this time I am ready! I have all my blogs feeding into my main site now, and that was a feat in and of itself that I will write about during Nablopomo, but this time I am sure I will carry out the challenge successfully as I can write about whatever I feel like writing about and have it post on one of my blogs and feed to the main one. I can't wait to try it out and put the multi-feed consolidation to the test and get back to writing regularly. This past month has been so challenging, with non-fun challenges, that I can't wait for the productive challenge of Nablopomo this November. I heartily recommend this as a fun blogging practicum to those who have not yet participated.

AberrantCrochet 5 pts

OK, so I've been mostly involved with NaBloPoMo for the November challenge. And I'm scrambling to catch up on the changes. Do I understand correctly that there is no monthly "Blog Roll" to register for anymore? We just have our new account here and blog away and it automatically somehow gets grouped for the November challenge? Or something?

Thanks for the info! I wear so many hats and juggle so many events!

Melissa Ford 42 pts

AberrantCrochet

There will be a blogroll. It opens up tomorrow as we gear up for NaBlo to begin on Nov 1. All the details for blogging will be up tomorrow morning.

AberrantCrochet 5 pts

Thanks Melissa! I do have a question though. My blog was turned down for inclusion on the blogher list due to lack of posts in August/September. With deaths in the family in August/September, blogging just was not a priority for me. But I *always* participate in the annual November NaBloPoMo via one of my blogs each year. Does this mean I cannot participate in it this year? Because that would be a huge disappointment. Melissa Ford

Melissa Ford 42 pts

AberrantCrochet

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by turned down since no blogs were removed from the NaBloPoMo list at that time. Do you want to email me and I can look into it? melissa.ford@blogher.com

AberrantCrochet 5 pts

Sure, thanks Melissa. I'm sending to you now. :) Melissa Ford

Deb Rox 13 pts

Will you be soliciting for/accepting prizes, or is there a place I should look for info about that?

Melissa Ford 42 pts

Deb Rox

We actually already have prizes lined up for November. There will be another letter going out this week, but we have weekly $50 Visa gift cards, conference passes, and books galore.

@meriahnichols 6 pts

grrrr...I'm so mad at me! I'm blogging daily for October and I can't add it to the roll. Okay, November for sure.

HomeRearedChef 605 pts

I've been doing most of my writing/blogging right here on BlogHer. Will my daily blogs on BlogHer count? Thank you!

~Virginia

Melissa Ford 42 pts

HomeRearedChef

Absolutely -- you don't have to have a personal blog. You can post right here on BlogHer.

HomeRearedChef 605 pts

But in order for my blogs to count, I would need to sign up through the link you gave KarenLynnn below, correct?

By the way, thank you very much for your patience. (Smile!)

Melissa Ford

Melissa Ford 42 pts

HomeRearedChef

To "count" for NaBloPoMo, you just need to sign up and make the commitment when the November list opens (at the end of October). And then blog daily for the entire month of November. It's as simple as that.

The link I gave is for the newsletter, which I send out a few times a month with important information for NaBloPoMo as well as featured posts.

HomeRearedChef 605 pts

Thank you so much for your time and information! Melissa Ford

KarenLynnn 440 pts

how do I sign up and get the newsletter prompts? and then do I just follow the daily prompts and tag the posts as NaBloPoMo? this sounds like it would really help my writing skills. :)

Melissa Ford 42 pts

KarenLynnn

You can sign up for the newsletter right here: http://www.blogher.com/sign-bloghers-email-newslet...

The daily prompts are always on Twitter at blogherblogging

And you'll also be able to see them on the new NaBloPoMo page on BlogHer.

I feel a bit strange participating in NaBloPoMo this year because it's a website geared towards women.

Melissa Ford 42 pts

As I said over on NaBloPoMo, please don't feel strange. A lot of men actually come to the conference each year, and hang out on the site all year round. Really, there will be nothing "female" about NaBloPoMo just because it has moved over to the BlogHer site.

Laine Griffin 90 pts

I am new to blogging and I am really excited about this! Must put on a thinking cap!

Sofia Michaels 12 pts

I'm glad to see NaBloPoMa here and adapted for blogging. I've just recently heard of it and thought it was for fiction writers only so I have already adapted it to my creative non-fiction and am crafting a book at 933 words a day Sept 15- November 30 to psuedo participate.

30 days of bloggin in November with others will be great! Love the party of it!
