Now Getting Happy

BlogHer Review

The sequel to Waiting to Exhale proves Charles R. Swindoll’s quote “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it”. In Getting to Happy the brilliant Terry McMillan shows us how the women, whom we met in the first book, deal with the changes that happen as their life progresses and they get older. This is a brilliant sequel to a Waiting to Exhale, although it is not necessary that one read that to enjoy the second part. But if you did read the first one than you must read this one because you will be thrilled to yet again get involved in such a fantastic story line.

The four main characters go through many changes in this book, things that probably every reader can relate to in one form or another. And as the story progresses the author shows how powerful the ties of family and friendship are to these women. And while they might not all make the choices that you and I would have made if we were in the same situation, they follow their hearts and show that sometimes reaching a crossroad in life is a positive circumstance.

This is a fun book to bring to the beach or perhaps to a girls only weekend. It will have you laughing, crying, and perhaps looking at your life differently. In my case it made me appreciate the close friendships I have with my girlfriends and also encouraged me to plan an outing with them to catch up. I hope I can be as good a friend to my girlfriends as the characters were to each other in this book.
