The Obama Truth Squad

And what is wrong with making sure that libelous and/or slanderous information is not put out to the American public to ensure a fair and democratic election? Basically, they are fact-checking the ads to make sure that no one is lying to the American public to sway the election.

Our election laws prohibit anyone from standing outside polling location trying to browbeat Americans into voting one way or another. That is why you hear about "exit" polls... they can't be seen as trying to sway the vote through coersion or other sinister tactics. 

The problem is that our election laws were made before the internet and TV made this stuff available on such a widespread basis. The election laws don't cover misleading or false ads at this point, but it can fall under libel or slander if they take it too far, as they did with Kerry in the last election with the "Swift Boat Tactics". 

Are you saying that it is okay for McCain's camp, or even Obama's camp, to put forth false information in the hopes that Americans will turn to the other candidate in fear, not because of the actual issues? Because in effect, if you are against people making sure that the election is held on the straight and narrow, then you have lost your perspective. (And yes, McCain has his own "Truth Squad" out there as well).

To publish this and to make it seem as though Obama is somehow trying to take away civil liberties when in fact, a) both candidates are doing it and b) it actually ENFORCES our civil liberties is irresponsible and misleading.
