Oil Pulling..Will it fix my gums and teeth....Time will only tell!!!

Let me first say....I am a failure. I can not write a blog EVERY DAY!!! My brain doesn't like to work like that. My brain can't filter everyday things that should be written about and what shouldn't be written about. Because when it comes down to it.......I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT EVERYTHING..... and I can't. So I have decided not to do any more blogging challenges until I can learn how to write about what I want to write about.

Well today I decided I need to write about something I am trying right now in my life. I have started to do oil pulling. Before I tell you what it is , I’ll let you in on why I am doing it.

First let me say I should have listened to my mom when she said “Don't use your teeth”. She was right, I shouldn't use my teeth to open things up, bite a hang nail, take a tag off clothes, open up a package that has gotten the better of me.....Literally the list could go on and on about the things I used my teeth to do that I really shouldn't have.

Last week I was messing with my nail...I have this one nail that naturally splits down the middle. It's painful when it splits. Occasionally a piece of nail breaks in the middle and I normally use my teeth to pull it out. Well since my gums have gotten bad due to.....I’ll be honest.....bad dental hygiene. I am not a flosser or a twice a day brusher. I tend to forget to brush before bed. So because of these reasons my gums and teeth are not in the best condition.

So when I tried to fix my split nail with my teeth because I could not find the nail clippers and I was laying in bed watching Family Guy, I felt myself loosen one of my bottom front teeth. I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom.... and STUPID STUPID ME..... I had loosened that sucker. I was so upset.

The next day I started Googling natural cures for loose tooth and found some pretty good ideas....oil pulling being one of them. Then I thought well maybe I can find a natural cure for the cavities and gum disease... cause we all know that cavities, gum disease and loose teeth go hand in hand. And the one thing I found on every topic was oil pulling with coconut, sesame or sunflower oil.

So what is oil pulling..... Oil pulling is swishing 1-2 teaspoons of coconut, sesame or sunflower oil through the mouth and teeth for 20 minutes. Spitting some out as you go like you do with brushing your teeth. Don't swallow it cause it's getting all the bad stuff. That simple. It supposedly attracts the bacteria in your mouth and traps it. If you want to read more about it here are some links on it.

I decided to use the coconut oil because I have heard a lot about the wonderful things you can do with it. I mean why not bring something into my home that can help me cook, lose weight, keep my hair pretty, make natural personal care items with, etc. If you decided to use coconut oil it needs to be virgin or extra virgin organic cold pressed unrefined non hydrogenated coconut oil.

This what i am using!!!

I have only used it twice so far. Once last night and once this morning. They say the best time is in the morning but not everyone has that kind of time in the am like I do.....I couldn't find anything saying that doing it at night is a bad thing. You can do it up to 3 times a day before meals. I'm starting with twice a day now. First thing in the morning and last thing at night.

I don't know much about oil pulling like the history or if dentist recommend it or not. All I know is what i have read on the links I gave you and what people have told me about it through Facebook.  So I am sorry if I kind of left this blog lacking in real info.

All I can tell you is in the two times I have done it, I can see and feel a difference in my teeth and gums already. I will be keeping you posted on my journey with Coconut oil. Next thing to figure out is how to make a coconut oil toothpaste for the family to use. Pinterest here I come....LOL I think I might have already pinned a recipe....but I don't know yet.....I have pinned so many things.....:)

Until we meet again.....Have a wonderful and healthy day

Happy writing!!!
