The Olympic Hangover: Recapping the 2010 Winter Games

I think I have an Olympic hangover. I'm not joking. I am exhausted. I watched more events this year than I have during a winter Olympics than I have since I had the chicken pox during the 1984 winter games in Sarajevo.

I was good. I was excited. I was standing in front of my TV and screaming during the U.S.A./Canada men's hockey game yesterday, which, by the way was one of the best hockey games I have ever seen.

Then Sidney Crosby won the game for Canada in sudden death overtime.

I imagine my emotions would have been different if the United States won the game, but suddenly I was done. I was emotionally spent. I needed a nap. I hadn't even realized that I had been so personally invested.

The Olympics are sort of the equivalent of the marathon for sports fans. This is where I collapse and possibly crap my pants.

I will let our sisters tell you what happened:

In the women's ice hockey finals - Deb on the Rocks, Lori from Draft Day Suit

Figure Skating - Skating through tragedy, Why I Love Ice Dancing

Alpine Skiing - Amazing photos from The Calgary Herald

Biathlon - Russian Brides

Bobsled - Olympic Bobsled Team Too Scared to Compete

Cross Country Skiing - Norway Takes Gold in mens and women's cross country skiing

Curling - Byline to Finish Line, 5 Things to know about curling (if you are still confused)

Freestyle Skiing - Ashleigh McIvor Wins Gold

Luge - Tragedy, Glitches and Glory at Star-Crossed Games

Nordic Combined - U.S. a Nordic Combined Power House?

Short Track - Short Track Results

Skeleton - Montgomery, Williams win Gold Medals for Skeleton

Ski Jumping - Day 12

Snowboard - On Jasey Jay Anderson

Speed Skating - Jennifer was actually there!

And Breakthroughs and Surprises from Woman's Eye on Sports

And Why Are the Olympic Games so Sexist from Fair Game News

See why I am so tired? I've got to rest up. We've only got two years until the 2012 Summer Games in London.

Yes!  I too have Olympic Withdrawl!  I watched and watched and watched.  I cheered and cried my eyes out!

Now I guess it is time to get moving doing my own sport (cycling) and employ my fantasy that I too can prepare for The Tour!

We had major let down tonight and we still have 4 unwatched hours on tape.  It felt strange to watch something different before bed.

Melissa writes Stirrup Queens ( http://stirrup-queens.com ) and Lost and Found ( http://lostandfoundandconnectionsabound.blogspot.c... ). Her book is Navigating the Land of If ( http://thelandofif.blogspot.com/ ).

I wish I could have seen more of it than just snippets of what NBC thought was most palatable to Reglar Amerikun Folk. But I'm a figure skating junkie and even understood enough about ice dancing this year to get beyond the nooby "oh, but they wear sparkles so it can't be a sport" dialogues.

And while I can't claim to understand curling, it did blow my mind.

As did all the lovely men in latex and feathers.

The Olympics, oh how I love them so!

So I overdosed on Olympic coverage a couple of times. But now I want it back because regular daytime television really, really sucks.

I too am suffering from Winter Olympics 2010 withdrawal.  I used to figure skate competitively so I've always watched the figure skating events, but this year I started skiing again (after a 10 year hiatus) and became engrossed in all of the alpine events as well.  Then I went skiing in Utah got hurt and spent the last week glued to the tv watching any and every event I could from curling to hockey.  My hangover is so bad that I think the only thing that will cure it is going to Russia for the 2014 games - hope to see you there!
