Skirts for boxers? Hijabs for soccer players? Everyone seems to have an opinion about the appropriate attire for female athletes.Now it looks like bikini lovers will also be weighing in. For the first time since beach volleyball became an Olympic medal event 16 years ago,  players will be permitted to wear shorts and sleeves. The bikini, the standard uniform, is now optional.  Read more >

At the 5th Annual International Olympic Committee Conference on Women and Sport last month in Los Angeles, a big topic of conversation was whether Saudi Arabia violates the IOC charter on gender equality by not sending female athletes to the Games.Is anybody else shocked that not all nations field women teams in the Olympics? It’s a wrap. The curtain came down on the Fifth International Olympic Committee World Conference on Women and Sport in downtown Los Angeles after three days of ceremonies, keynotes and panel discussions. The conference, whose theme was “Together Stronger: the Future of Sport,” welcomed more than 750 delegates from 140 countries with the objective of analyzing the progress made within the Olympic Movement and identifying ways to increase the profile of women in the world of sport.  Read more >

A hot-button issue on the Women Talk Sports website last week centered on the Amateur International Boxing Association's request that female boxers wear skirts when competing in the ring. WTH?
