Omega-3s increase working memory in 18- to 25-year-olds --- even those at their mental peak!
University of Pittsburg brain researchers studied healthy 18- to 25-year-olds who were "at the top of their cognitive game." They found that by increasing their Omega-3 fatty acid intake, the young adults were able to enhance their working memory even futher.
The study was done over 6 months and included both genders and all ethnicities taking Lovanza (an FDA-approved Omega-3 supplement).
Before the study, the participants had PET imaging and blood tests. Researchers even found that BEFORE the supplements were started, there was a correlation between working memory and the Omega-3s the participants were getting from their diet. (I'm assuming the kids who ate more fish had the best working memory.)
