When I was a little girl, I'd wake up, walk slowly down the stairs with my infamously wild bed-head and my mother would sing, "There she is, Mess America." It became my morning theme-song. That and the bed-head look stick with me today as I received news that I've been selected by Dawn at Alex Year Two to receive a scholarship to attend BlogHer '09. I immediately called my mom, who said without me asking, "I'll buy your train ticket" as I explained it would be $272 to just get there.
Why me? I don't know why she picked me other than the fact I put my hat in the ring and spoke honestly about how I wanted to go, what I've done for helping creative women live their dreams in the past, and what I'm aiming to do this year. I honestly believe those who are most successful in life are those who follow their truth (by honoring who they truly are) and show up day in and day out doing their thing. I've always told others they can live their dreams, and although I've believed it, I know the journey can be long and hard some days. Today just happend to be my best day yet, because a complete stranger saw me, what I'm about and realized I will make the journey to BlogHer '09 work. (Besides, I've got us both excited about how many great people I can meet on the train as I travel to Chicago!)
I feel like I won a beauty pageant, little (I'm five feet tall), curvy (rarely been less than a size 12, up to a size 16), bed-head me! So, your mental image for the day is of fully loaded junky trunk swirvin' those hips down the red carpet, tiara aglow, doing the princess wave. Come on, you know the tune, sing it for me, "Here she is, Mess America!" Thank you! I can't wait to meet everyone!
