This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Maybelline, Benefit and Neutrogena.
Blush is one of those things you kind of have to get right: too much and you look like you let your three-year-old paint your cheeks, too little and there's hardly any point to it. It's something of an art, to be sure, and it's one I'm still not sure I've quite perfected. Luckily for all of us, though, I've managed to find three blushes that are not only pretty much goof-proof but also seem to suit everyone. If you're sick of being mistaken for a member of the Insane Clown Posse, read on.
For that ethereal English Rose glow: When I feel like channeling Keira Knightley (which I do possibly more than the average person), I use Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in "Pink Frosting," which is the fabulous consistency of butterscotch pudding and comes in a handy little pot. It glides on really smoothly and rubs in easily, making it almost impossible to mess up. I've also experiemented with "Soft Plum" and give that a big old two thumbs up as well.
For that "hey, I just got back from two weeks in the Bahamas" look: Alright, listen, promise you won't be put off by the name, but Coralista by Benefit is the ultimate in blush-bronzer combos. In fact, I'm not even sure if it's supposed to be a blush-bronzer combo, but it always makes me look suspiciously tanned (as well as artfully flushed), so I use it when I'm feeling particularly pale and English (as opposed to just generally pale and English, which is how I feel every day.) One note: the teeny-tiny brush that comes with this sucks, so upgrade to a nice big fluffy round brush if you can for a more evenly distributed look.
For something in between that even you can't mess up, trust me, I promise: My go-to blush, and one I seem to have converted at least three people to (never mind that two of them were in my immediate family) is Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush in "Precious Pink." I wear this blush every day, and it's a cinch to apply; only once have I ever got that weird clown look going on, and that's because I applied it in a moving vehicle without a mirror. Be yet not so stupid as me and you can't go wrong. It's delicate and neutral and apt to make people wonder if you've just had a nice run around outside to get that healthy glow. And that's what we're going for, right?
What about you? Does your blush blow my blush out of the water? Let's hear about it. Because I've can't imagine being swayed away from these three.
