Editor's note: The House of Representatives yesterday delayed a vote on House Speaker John Boehner's budget bill. With the deadline to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling or have the U.S. Treasury begin to default on government payments coming up on August 2, Kate at The Radula puts the possible consequences into personal terms in a heartfelt open letter to President Obama. -- Julie

An individual with a chronic, debilitating condition (lupus), I rely totally on my Social Security benefits. Mind you, I don't see this as an "entitlement", but as collecting on the benefits I've been paying into since I was 11 years old and doing farm work.

If the checks do not come out on August 3rd, it could well result in my eviction and the loss of home for my two children as well.
